Salisbury’s girls soccer team won 3-2 at East Davidson on Monday to stay in first place in the CCC.
Salisbury scored its three goals in the last 17 minutes of the first half.
Kate Grant scored on an assist by Katie Bullock. Grant scored the second goal unassisted after her first shot was stopped by East Davidson goalkeeper Taylor Bell. Ceci Cardelle one-timed a volleyball off Grant’s corner for a 3-0 Salisbury lead.
East Davidson scored off a long throw to cut the Hornets’ lead to 3-1 at halftime.
Then East Davidson made it 3-2 early in the second half.
Momentum swung back and forth the last 35 minutes, but the Hornets held on. East Davidson had four corners in the last two minutes and hit the post and the crossbar.
Maddie Labovitz, Kathryn Rusher and Susannah Dixon led Salisbury’s defense.
“In many regards, we were lucky to win,” SHS coach Matt Parrish said. “For a lot of the match, we were on our heels and looked exceptionally nervous for a team that hopes to win the conference.”
Three Hornets missed the match with injuries sustained against North Rowan.
The last five Salisbury-East Davidson matches have been decided by one goal. The Hornets have won three of them.
Salisbury (10-1-1, 5-0 CCC) is at Ledford tonight and hosts Lexington on Wednesday. Both games are at 6.
• West Rowan won 5-1 against Northwest Cabarrus in SPC soccer on Monday.
Kelly Boley scored two goals to lead the Falcons. Mikayla Graham, Josie Heglar and Emily Muire scored one each. Mariah Coleman had three assists, while Victoria Patterson had two.
Kristen Boley, Madeline Wilhelm, Claudia Patterson and Meredith Stanly played well on defense for West (7-3 SPC). West hosts Carson in a big one tonight.
Gray Stone’s Ian Lins plans to sign with Pfeiffer’s soccer program on Wednesday.
Carson had a very strong showing in Saturday’s Appalachian State High School Invitational.
Leading the way was MyQuon Stout . He won the discus (165 feet, 3 inches) and the shot put (54-4).
Andrew Hower won the high jump (6-6) and finished third in the long jump (20-5).
Zachary Marchinko won the 3200 in 9:58.62.
Tre Williams was second in the shot put (50-2) and third in the discus (142-1).
Danyal Sherer was third in the 800 (2:02.85).
Tyler Mason was fifth in the discus (130-10) and seventh in the shot put (41-6).
Nick Cox was seventh in the 400 (53.38), while Garrett Ingold was sixth in the 3200 (10:57.88). Carson’s 4×400 team of Cox, Sherer, Tyrese Paul and Hower ran 3:35.82 for third place.

Caroline Forbis pitched a no-hitter and struck out eight batters as Salisbury beat Lexington 21-0 for a CCC victory on Monday.
Anna Tonseth, Lainy Slate and Katy Wolfe had two hits apiece for the Hornets.
• Carson rolled 18-3 against Concord for a South Piedmont Conference win on Monday.
Carson improved to 7-6 in the SPC and is tied for fifth with East Rowan. The SPC gets five playoff berths.
Michaela White had three hits, including two doubles. Mariah Morgan also had three hits, with two doubles.
Morgan Penninger, Kaycee Kennedy and Rachel Freeze had two hits each. Freeze had a double.
Krista Peninger was the winning pitcher.
• West Rowan-East Rowan and South Rowan-Central Cabarrus already have been postponed from today to Wednesday.
South Rowan catcher Matt Honeycutt will sign with Mars Hill on Friday.
• Carson catcher Bryson Prugh will sign with Catawba Valley Community College on Wednesday.
• Ryan McIntyre pitched a three-inning perfect game to lead East Davidson to a 15-0 CCC win against Lexington on Monday.
Nathan Campbell drove in three runs.
The Golden Eagles are 12-4 and 7-0 in the CCC.
• In the CCC today, Salisbury is scheduled to host West Davidson and North Rowan is at Thomasville.
In the SPC today, West Rowan is home against Cox Mill, Carson is home against Hickory Ridge, and East Rowan is home against Central Cabarrus.
Five SPC teams will make the playoffs. East Rowan, South Rowan and Carson are certain to finish in the top five, while West Rowan needs one more league win to clinch a top-five finish.
South Rowan’s Davis Richards shot 72 and tied for fourth in the N.C. High School Invitational held in Durham.
• The CCC Championship match is set for today at the Country Club, with the SPC Championship match coming up on Thursday.
Statesville’s standout sophomore QB Travis Ramseur has been offered by North Carolina A&T and East Carolina.
Appalachian State’s Preston Troutman (East Rowan) belted his 13th career triple on Sunday to break the school record.
Catawba’s Madison Kennedy (Salisbury) has shot 78-79 — 157 and is tied for first after two rounds of the SAC women’s golf championships. in Sevierville, Tenn.
Matt Hardman has shot 77-74 — 151 and is tied for seventh. He leads the Catawaba men.
North Rowan graduate T.J. Bates has committed to Johnson C. Smith.
Bates played this season at Thomasville Prep.
• North Rowan graduate Oshon West plans to sign today at 3 p.m. with Davidson County Community College.
West played this season at Louisburg.
• North Rowan senior Kenyon Tatum plans to sign Thursday with Catawba Valley Community College.
Lenoir-Rhyne’s Jazmine Charles, who starred at Central Davidson, has been named to the All-State women’s basketball team.
The Kannapolis Intimidators were rained out in Hickory on Monday.
The teams have scheduled a doubleheader for today, starting at 4 p.m.
In the Thursday Scramble at Rolling Hills, front nine winners were Ronnie Eidson, F.G. Smith and Bob Parker.
Back nine winners in a scorecard playoff were Mitchell Swaringen,Vernon Hunt and Mike Hardister.
Closest to the pin winners were Swaringen and Henry Morgan.
• Jake McDaniel made a hole-in-one at Rolling Hills.
He aced the 164-yard No. 12 hole with a 7-iron. Mark Brittain witnessed the feat.
The CCC tournament started Monday and concludes today.
In singles, Salisbury’s Michael Ogden won 6-0, 6-0 against East Davidson’s Landon Roddenberry.
Salisbury’s Hunter Carlton won 6-0, 6-2 against Lexington’s David Wolfe.
Other singles winners were West Davidson’s Noel Lopez and Brett Moore..
• In doubles, Salisbury’s Clint Comadoll-Spencer Storey won 6-0, 6-2 against Lexington’s Dave Fulp-Sam Sharpe. Salisbury’s Chris Derrick-David Derrick won 6-3, 6-2 against Lexington’s Austin Cross-Coleman Hayes. East Davidson’s Jake Finlay-Brett Fuller and West Davidson’s Jaime Lopez-Nathan Little also advanced.
Semifinals start today at 4 p.m. All the semifinalists have qualified for regionals.
