High school track and field: Conference championship meets this week

After winning Rowan County championships, South Rowan’s girls and Carson’s boys move on to the nine-team 3A South Piedmont Conference Championships on Thursday at Robinson High.

Sprinter Mesiyah Howell, high jumper Macy Miller and a strong distance crew will lead the South girls, while Carson will look for big efforts from a deep distance group, high jumper Damir Miller and jumper/sprinter Carson Aman.

Distance man Eli Julian leads the South boys, thrower JT Butler is the standout for the East boys, while West’s boys should score well in the jumps and hurdles.

Carson’s girls are led by distance runner Julia Burleson, West is paced by thrower Skyy Ruben. East will be a factor with a deep group of jumpers and runners.

The 1A/2A Central Carolina Conference Championships will be conducted on Tuesday at West Davidson.

Thrower Brittany Ellis leads the North Rowan girls, while hurdler Kemyon Oglesby leads the North boys.

Salisbury’s boys are led by sprinters Deuce Walker and Jamal Rule, while the girls will be led by sprinter/hurdler Tai’lah Ward and versatile runner Millie Wymbs.

Regionals will take place on May 10-11.

The 2A Midwest Regional is scheduled for Mount Pleasant on May 10. The 3A Midwest Regional will be at Robinson on May 11, with Davie serving as the host for the 1A Midwest Regional on May 11.
