Catawba’s scheduled exhibition game with the Kannapolis Intimidators was washed away on Monday and will not be rescheduled.

Catawba will return to action today at Newman Park at 6 p.m.

The Class A Intimidators will open on Thursday at home at 7:05 p.m. against Lakewood.

Former Catawba slugger Will Albertson is a prospect in the San Francisco Giants farm system and has been assigned to Augusta of the South Atlantic League.

Augusta visits Kannapolis for a series  at the start of May.

Former Catawba hurler Craig Brooks, a Chicago Cubs prospect, will open the season with Myrtle Beach in advanced Class A ball.

College track

UNC Pembroke’s Jonathan and Matthew Martin (Carson) competed in the 10K run at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary.

Matthew improved his personal best time by 30 seconds with a time of 32:20.   Jonathan improved his personal best time by 20 seconds with a time of 32:33.   

Prep baseball

South Piedmont Conference games were rained out on Monday. With a full slate of games already scheduled on Wednesday, most postponements were rescheduled for Thursday. West Rowan and  South Rowan are going to try to play today at South.

Salisbury and North Rowan have Central Carolina Conference home games scheduled for today. North Rowan’s home game with Lexington, scheduled for Monday, was pushed back to Wednesday.

Softball and soccer also were postponed.

Signings

Davidson County Community College’s 6-foot-6 forward David Tripp (A.L. Brown) will sign with Bluefield on Tuesday.

North Rowan lefty Joe Harrison plans to sign with Belmont Abbey’s baseball program on April 12.

Guilford Tech’s Juan Garcia (West Rowan) hit his fifth and sixth homers of the season last week.
