High school softball: East, West, South advance to SPC tournament semifinals

MOUNT ULLA —  West Rowan breezed to a 10-0 win against sixth-seeded Lake Norman Charter on Monday in the opening round of the South Piedmont Conference Tournament.

The third-seeded Falcons (18-6) got a homer from Emma Clarke, who scored three runs. Clarke was walked intentionally with the bases loaded for one West run.

Arabelle Shulenburger went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

EA Nance and Ella Doby had two hits. Lucy McLean Shelton and Reese Poole had two RBIs.

Shulenburger pitched the five-inning shutout, allowing four hits and striking out nine.

GRANITE QUARRY — Camryn Perkins threw a shutout as top-seeded East Rowan cruised 10-0 against eighth-seeded Carson in a first-round matchup.

Kori Miller’s two-run homer was the highlight for East’s offense. The Mustangs (18-3) got doubles from Jordan Dry and Madi Tigert.

CONCORD — Second-seeded Central Cabarrus battered seventh-seeded Robinson 17-6 in a first-round game on Monday.

Taryn Jenkins homered and drove in six for the Vikings (16-5).

CONCORD — Leisha Carter went 4-for-4 and scored two runs as fifth-seeded South Rowan (10-11-1) pounded fourth-seeded Northwest Cabarrus 10-0 in a first-round matchup.

Eva Shue had a triple and four RBIs for the Raiders.

Carmen Thomas and Danica Krieg scored two runs each.

Shue had a strong game in the circle, allowing two hits, and Lexie Ritchie finished off the win.

Action continues with the semifinals at East Rowan today.
