Columbus State’s baseball team beat Lander, 9-4, on Sunday to win the championship of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
Columbus State also was the PBC’s regular-season champ. Ranked fifth nationally, Columbus State (42-12) will be the top seed and will host the Southeast Regional that starts Thursday.
The NCAA announced its 56-team field for the Division II Tournament on Sunday night.
Catawba, champion of the South Atlantic Conference, is the No. 6 seed in the seven-team regional.
Catawba (34-19) will face a familiar foe in its opening game on Thursday as the Indians will tangle with Belmont Abbey (38-14). The Crusaders won twice against Catawba this season, including a 24-22 slugfest at Newman Park.
Other first-round games will have second-seeded Lander (38-14) against seventh-seeded Mount Olive (30-19) and fourth-seeded USC Aiken (37-16) against fifth-seeded Tusculum (36-16). Columbus State (40-12) will have a first-round bye.
The seven-team regional will last five days with the championship being held on Monday, May 23.

WR Basketball Camp
West Rowan Falcon basketball camps will be held on June 13-15 and July 11-13. The cost is $50 for a three-day session. Coach Mike Gurley will lead the camp. Camps are for boys who will be heading to grades 7-9 and for boys and girls heading to grades 2-6.

Intimidators
For the second time in three days the Kannapolis Intimidators were walked off by the Hagerstown Suns on Sunday. Kannapolis (15-20) lost a three-run lead and fell, 6-5. Kannapolis returns home tonight.

Prep soccer
Grya Stone won, 6-0, against Queens Grant in the second round of the 1A state playoffs.
Annie Habeeb scored twice, while Kelsey Kiser, Kate Sullivan and Laurie Fogleman had a goal each for the Knights.
Gray Stone (20-1) hosts Union Academy at Pfeiffer’s field on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Local golf
The McCanless Couples played a Captain Choice’s on Sunday.
The first-place team was Azalee Story, Lexie Miller, David Huneycutt and Harry Owen.
The second-place team was Ty & Beverly Cobb, Mary Seaford and Allen Drew. Seaford won closest to the pin. Miller won longest putt.
