High school boys tennis: Salisbury romps; East edges Cougars

DENTON — Salisbury breezed to a 9-0 win against South Davidson on Monday to stay unbeaten in the Central Carolina Conference.

AJ Jarrell, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Reid Hlavacek, Soyer Cornelison and Ben Lawson won singles matches for the Mustangs (11-1, 8-0).

Jarrell/Gray Davis, Cornelison/Hlavacek and Bryant Davis/Lawson were winning doubles teams.

Salisbury will look to keep it rolling against East Davidson on Wednesday.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan won 5-4 against Carson on Monday and got even for a 5-4 loss to the Cougars on April 2.

The difference was the return to the East lineup of Blake Mathews. He missed the first match with the Cougars. Mathews won at No. 2 singles in the tightest match in the rematch, taking a 4-6, 6-2, (10-3) victory against Austin Atwell.

Carson (5-8, 5-7) got singles wins from Karson Sloop at No. 1 and Will Welch at No. 3.

East’s Will Kesler, Preston Stephens and Josh Gardner won at 4, 5 and 6.

The Gardner/Stephens doubles team won a clincher for the Mustangs (8-4, 8-4) at No. 3 doubles.

Sloop/Atwell and Welch/Andrew Carter were winning doubles teams for the Cougars.
