SALISBURY — The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will meet Thursday to continue discussing a consultant’s proposal to shutter four elementary schools and consolidate them into other schools.

The proposal, known as “scenario one,” recommends the closure of six area elementary schools. The scenario names Mount Ulla, Enochville, Morgan and Faith elementaries, in addition to the already slated Cleveland and Woodleaf elementaries. After it was presented to the board on April 7, the suggestion sparked outrage on social media.

“We’re just going to have some discussion,” school board Chairman Josh Wagner said about the meeting, “I don’t know what will happen or what will come out of it, but we just felt like we needed to continue that discussion.”

The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the board room at the Wallace Educational Forum, 500 N. Main St.
