Executive Director at Rowan and Cabarrus Opportunities Gary Yelton announced the appointment and promotion of Gary Elmore as the agency’s new director of sales and marketing. Elmore will succeed Glenn McDonald, who retired after 24 years of service to the company.

Elmore currently serves as production manager at Cabarrus Vocational Opportunities in Concord, and he will continue to serve in that capacity, as well as his new position, effective immediately.

“We are extremely pleased that Mr. Elmore has accepted his additional responsibilities,” Yelton said. “He has a proven track record of success, and we look forward to his continued positive contributions to our organization.”

Elmore is a Mooresville, Indiana, native where he was an outstanding student and basketball player, as well as tennis. He earned a basketball scholarship to Pembroke State University, which was coached by Bill Lee.

After a successful career at Pembroke State, Coach Lee was hired to lead the Campbell University Camels in Buies Creek a NCAA Division One school. Elmore decided to follow Coach Lee and transferred to Campbell. After graduation, Elmore returned to Campbell to serve as an assistant basketball coach under Lee.

Elmore’s coaching career was highlighted in 1992 when Campbell won its conference title, earning the right to play defending NCAA national champion Duke University in the first round of the tournament.

Elmore is a friend and has worked several camps with Matt Painter, who recently coached Purdue University to the Final Four.

Elmore went on to work in manufacturing and construction positions for 15 years before settling in Salisbury. He served on the Board of Rowan Vocational Opportunities beginning in 2011 and was elected board president in 2016.

He resides in Salisbury with his wife, Greta, and his two daughters, Hannah and Lindsay. In his spare time, Elmore enjoys watching his daughters play volleyball. Hannah excelled at Brevard Collage and Lindsay is an outstanding performer at Queens University. He and his family are active members of Grace Lutheran Church. They also enjoy trips to the mountains and the beach.
