Rivers named outstanding debutante queen

SALISBURY — Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Alpha Zeta Chapter of Salisbury salutes its Outstanding Queen Alanna Denise Rivers for her contribution to the Sorority Scholarship Endeavor. Through her hard work, Rivers continues to emphasize the organization’s principal of finer womanhood.

She is the daughter of Dennis and Natalie Rivers. Rivers is a member of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, serving on the usher board and she is also an acolyte.

As a senior at Salisbury High, she participates in the National Honor Society, Key Club, Junior Civitan Club, varsity cheerleading and Crosby Scholars program. Rivers’ community activities include: Delta Gems, Sheros and competitive dancing at the Institute of Divine Arts in Winston-Salem (for the past 5 years). Rivers’ ambition is to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, majoring in pre-medicine with a minor in dance.

First runner-up:

Miss Alex Jacqueline Ruth Lineberry is the daughter of Alban and Barbara Lineberry. Religious affiliation is with Gees Grove AME Zion Church. She serves as Sunday school secretary, a delegate for the Sunday school Institute of the Durham District, assistant Sunday teacher for the children, as well as a member of the usher board. Lineberry is a sophomore at Uwharrie Charter Academy in Asheboro.

Lineberry’s school and community activities include tennis, Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Archonette Club for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. After high school, Lineberry plans to attend UNC-G and major in elementary education.

Second runner-up:

Miss Zana Smyre-Rouse, daughter of Frederick Rouse and SaTonya Smyre. Religious affiliation is with Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. She is a senior at West Rowan High. Smyre-Rouse school and community activities include FBLA, Crosby Scholars Program and Girl Scouts. Performances with Meroney, Norvell and Lee Street theaters and North Carolina Transportation Museum “The Polar Express,” Santa & The Grinch at the Bell Tower, Donald Gray Productions and “Time on Stage Acting Camp.” Smyre-Rouse’s ambition is to attend RCCC for two years and transfer to UNC at Greensboro to major in science and dance.

Third runner-up:

Miss Nadia Lindsey, daughter of Mrs. Sheila Brown-Miller. Religious affiliation is with Shady Grove Baptist Church in East Spencer. Brown-Miller serves on the youth choir, youth church host, Sunday school helper and usher board helper. Brown-Miller is a junior at Albemarle High School in New London. Her school and community activities are the drama club, 2018 Fashionetta Queen – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She enjoys reading, writing poetry and singing. Nadia plans to attend NC A&T State University and major in nursing.

Debutante Miss Selina Sinclair, daughter of Ms. Ava Black. Religious affiliation is with Masjid Al Muminum. Her community activities include feeding the homeless, volunteering with Summit Place, Terrabella Lake Norman, Senior Living Community, and working with autistic children. Sinclair is a junior at Upper Langtree Charter Academy, Mooresville. Sinclair plans to attend a make-up artist academy to learn to do faces of females of all races.

Debutante Miss Deianna Theressia Withers, daughter of Lenita Withers, Otis Sifford and Willie McKee. Withers is a senior at Salisbury High School and a member of the Key Club. Religious affiliation is Ardis Chapel AME Zion Church serving on the usher board. Her community activities are members of the Key Club and being a volunteer at Trinity Living Center for two years. Withers plans to attend a 4-year university.

Debutante Miss Ayazhane Amore Wells is the daughter of Mr. Michael Wells and Mrs. Lisa (Scott) Wells. She attends Vineyard Worship Center serving with the youth choir. Her school activities include cheerleading, Drama Club, Key Club, International Thespian Society, Student Government Association and Sheroes. Her theatrical performances include, “Polar Express” and “Legally Blonde the Musical.” Wells plans to attend a school of journalism and theater.
