Catawba College signs articulation agreement with the NC Teacher Cadet Program

SALISBURY — Catawba College’s Goodman School of Education and the North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program recently established an articulation agreement designed to increase the prospective teacher pipeline. The agreement allows students completing Teacher Cadet coursework, field experiences and the corresponding Teacher Cadet Portfolio to submit their portfolio for evaluation for potential credit hours by examination for a teacher education course at the college.  

“We are excited to begin this partnership with the North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program,” Education Dean Dr. Kim Creamer said. “We look forward to welcoming NC Teacher Cadets to Catawba and helping them continue their journey toward becoming a professional educator.”

Catawba’s School of Education offers 15 undergraduate licensure programs, including birth-kindergarten (online); elementary education (K-6); middle school education (6-9, with concentrations in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies); secondary education (9-12 in English, mathematics, comprehensive social studies, comprehensive science, biology and chemistry); special education and special subject areas (K-12 in music or theater arts.)

Through the Shirley Ritchie Academy for Teaching, the School of Education provides professional development and travel opportunities for teacher candidates, as well as offers the Martha West Scholarship program that provides scholarships up to $12,000 per year for prospective teachers. 

The North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program is an in-state teacher recruitment and leadership program designed to create a pipeline of students to be the next generation of teachers and to reflect the diverse demographic makeup of students served in the public schools. The NC Teacher Cadet Curriculum introduces students to the science of learning, the role of the learner, professional expectations and responsibilities of the teacher and presents the global perspective of educational systems past, present and future.
