Kannapolis man charged with sexual activity with student

A teacher in the Cabarrus County School system faces charges of sexual activity with a student following an investigation by both Kannapolis Police and Concord Police.

Ricky Joe Durden Jr., 31, of the 1600 block of Daybreak Ridge Road, Kannapolis, is charged with four counts of sexual activity with a juvenile student.

Based on an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers, the Kannapolis Police Department began an investigation into a relationship between a teacher and a student.

A simultaneous investigation was being conducted by the Concord Police Department. Based on corroborating information from both agencies, warrants were obtained and Durden was arrested July 11 without incident at his home.

He is being held in the Cabarrus County Law Enforcement Building under $100,000 secured bond.
