St. John’s, Mt. Zion scholarship winners

On June 7, graduation Sunday, St. John’s Lutheran Church Benevolent Foundation awarded some $23,700 in scholarships to the following recipients:

Scott Rierson Scholarship: Max Patel.

Bruce Alden Ketner Jr. Scholarship: Haley Bowler, Christopher Derrick, Max Patel.

Dorothy Click Fesperman Scholarship: Christopher Derrick, Lauren Martz, Anna Page, Steven Page, Russell Michalec, Sarah Michalec, Carter Woolly.

Emily May Brown Scholarship: Riley Myers.

Margaret Cline and Ernest Crawford Safrit Sr. Scholarship: Haley Bowler, Laura Isenhour, Riley Myers.

Hugh B. Lyerly Scholarship: Laura Isenhour, Georgia Kirchin.

Thomas E. Gilbert and Viola H. Bailey Scholarship: Hannah Addair.

Carl Edgar and Edna Cauble Leazer Scholarship: Hannah Addair.

Sandra Collins serves as chairwoman of the scholarship committee. Charles Sowers is treasurer of the Benevolent Foundation.

Mt. Zion UCC awards scholarships

CHINA GROVE — During the 10 a.m. summer Sunday service, Mt. Zion United Church of Christ will present its annual scholarships to graduates from Jesse C. Carson and South Rowan High Schools. Recipients include Joseph Linker, Sarah Safrit, Jonathon Turner, Lillie Zentmeyer, Chandler Corriher, Cassie Howard, Abrielle Cozart, Melanie Beck, Sarah Pittman, William Artz III and Cody Brown.

Mt. Zion UCC is also presenting Continuing Education Scholarships to church members who are returning this year to college or university. They include Kayla Corriher, Andrew Purcell, Jonathan Martin, Matthew Martin, Mindy Corriher, Tori Lucas and Abby Bullard.

This year’s scholarships are made possible by the George and Ada Fleming Scholarship Fund and the Talbert and Dorothy Howell Scholarship Fund.
