YES (Youth Empowered to Serve) 2013, an interdenominational Christian event for high-school age youth (rising high school freshmen through rising college freshmen) will be held on the campus of Catawba College on Saturday, July 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Church youth groups, as well as individual youth, are encouraged to register and attend.
Groups registering at least 10 participants will receive free admission for one adult leader. The cost for the event is $30 per person, which covers all activities, meals and a commemorative T-shirt. The event was inspired by Catawba’s successful CYEW (Church Youth Empowerment Weekend) events, which were held in 2011 and 2013. The program will be similar, but concentrated into one action-packed day.
The theme for YES 2013 is “Looking In … Reaching Out.” Through a variety of activities, participants will look within themselves to discover how their God-given talents and abilities can be put to use right now in service to others. The program will feature rewarding community service projects, insightful presentations, small group breakout sessions, skits, sacred and contemporary music, devotions, recreational opportunities, goofy games and more. The leadership team for YES 2013 is comprised largely of Catawba students and recent graduates.
For more information or to register online, go to catawba.edu/YES. All registration forms and payment, by check or credit card, must be received by July 14. You may also contact Jay Laurens (coordinator of outreach programs) at 704-637-4725 or jlaurens@catawba.edu with specific questions.
YES 2013 is one initiative of the Lilly Center for Vocation and Values at Catawba College. The center offers an array of programs and services aimed at helping students find a sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.
