Several world language students from Salisbury Academy attained national recognition for their excellent performance on the 2012 National Spanish Examinations.
“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with 143,641 students participating in 2012.”
Students from Salisbury Academy earned a total of two gold, one silver and four bronze medals, along with 12 honorable mentions. Salisbury Academy has history of achievement on these exams.
Students are taught by Spanish teacher Yasmin Lozano Harris. The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades six through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
Gold medalists and fourth place in the state of North Carolina — Sharmi Amin, Level 01, seventh grade; Robbie Bergstone, Level 1, eighth grade.
Silver medalist — Andrew Kalogeromitros, seventh grade.
Bronze medalists — Neel Chauhan, eighth grade; Jenny Kribbs, seventh grade; Matt Washko, eighth grade; Grace Yatawara, eighth grade.
Honorable mention — Isabella Alvarez, Juliana Anderson, Steven Anderson, Thomas Cummings, Mike Hughes, Jordan McCall, Morgan Warren, seventh grade; Jacob Crosby, Harrison Smith, Grace Steinman, Sam Uliana, Laura Weber, eighth grade.
