North Carolina State University has selected 45 Park Scholars for fall 2011, including Catherine Teressa Thriveni of Salisbury.
The prestigious awards are valued at about $80,000 for North Carolina residents and $136,000 for out-of-state students. Winners were selected from a pool of more than 1,300 highly qualified applicants.
Thriveni, daughter of Pius and Nice Thriveni, will graduate from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics where she is a residential life assistant and co-president of the Care of the Durham Area Club and the Student Activities Board. She also is a member of the Service Learning Board and the Food Drive Student Committee. Catherine Thriveni has also spent time in Guatemala performing health service work. She plans to major in environmental science.
The scholarships pay tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, travel and personal expenses for four years of study at N.C. State.
The Park Scholarships are named for the late Roy H. Park, a 1931 N.C. State alumnus who created the charitable Park Foundation.
The Park Foundation, based in Ithaca, N.Y., provides support for programs across the nation related to higher education, media and the environment. For more information, visit http://www. ncsu.edu/park_scholarships.
