DURHAM ó Duke sophomore Nolan Smith is out indefinitely with a mild concussion suffered in a win at Maryland.
Smith was injured when he collided with Dave Neal after the Terrapins center set a hard screen near the foul line in the second half of Duke’s 78-67 win Wednesday night.
Smith collapsed to the floor and stayed there for several minutes before leaving the game. He did not return.
The school said team doctors examined Smith after Duke returned home that night and again Thursday.
“Nolan’s condition improved overnight, but we are going to proceed cautiously,” head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement. “Our medical staff will continue to monitor his progress, and he will return to the rotation when he is fully healthy.”
Duke plays Saturday at Virginia Tech.
