MT. ULLA — The annual Rowan County Exhibition Show will move from Carson to West Rowan High School this year.
The show features performances from all six high school marching bands in the Rowan-Salisbury School System.
The public is invited to see each band perform its halftime field show, which is used during competition season.
East Rowan’s Mustang Regiment, under the direction of Emily McNeil, will be doing a James Bond inspired show this year, while Todd Whittington’s Marching Raiders of South Rowan will be going classical with a Beethoven theme.
The Mighty Marching Hornets of Salisbury, under the direction of Mike Thomas, will be doing a show with the theme “Legends.”
“The British are Coming” is the theme for North Rowan’s Marching Cavaliers. The band will perform The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby,” “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude,” “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” and “The End.”
Jeff Street’s Marching Cougars of Carson will do a show titled “Land of the Free.” The show includes references to classic American musical literature and historical moments. It will highlight ideas from the New Frontier, include a tribute to fallen soldiers and feature a celebration of America.
The host school’s theme is “Lost & Found.” Daniel Trivette’s Marching Falcons will perform music from “Les Miserables,” traditional spirituals such as “Motherless Child” and “Poor Wayfarin’ Stranger” as well as music from the popular group Avenged Sevenfold including “Lost” and “Save Me.”
Gates open at 5 p.m. Saturday at West, 8050 N.C. 801. The cost is $5 and parking is free. Programs can be purchased for $3 each. Concessions will be on sale.
Prior to the exhibition, students will get a chance to work with a number of professional musicians to advance their skills.
