SALISBURY — Police are searching for a Salisbury man who authorities say punched an off-duty officer in the face as he was leaving a club.
According to Salisbury Police, Officer W.A. Lane was working security for the Exclusive Club when 28-year-old Robin Otto Worth approached the officer from behind, punching him in the face from the side.
The officer said he recognized Worth from a previous altercation that night.
The report said the club was closing at about 2 a.m. and hundreds of people were leaving the club when the assault occurred.
Worth, 2170 Grubb Ferry Road, has had several run-ins with Salisbury Police. He was charged Sept. 16 with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, possession of marijuana and resisting an officer after authorities reported that he fled on foot from officers at a traffic stop on Old Wilkesboro Road.
Lane was cut in the assault and had stitches, the report said.
Since 1999, Worth has been convicted of nine felonies, including possession of cocaine and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Salisbury Police ask anyone with information about Worth to call 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
