East Rowan’s 9U baseball all-stars won the WNC Cal Ripken State championship with an 11-8 victory over Porter Ridge on Thursday night in Lexington.
The teams split two games Wednesday to force a decisive Game 3 on Thursday.
East moves on to the Southeast Regional in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., next week.
Australian Jake Higginbottom won the eGolf Tour’s three-round Cabarrus Classic on Friday by one stroke over Jesse Hutchins.
Higginbottom shot 65 in the final round, finished 17-under at Cabarrus Country Club and won $13,500.
Will Collins finshed with a 68 and tied for 16th at 8-under. He won $1,900.
Frank Adams III finished with a 69 and tied for 24th at 6-under. He won $1,400.

The Kannapolis Intimidators hit three early homers on Friday but still lost 5-4 to visiting Lakewood. Adam Engel, Jacob Morris and Christian Stringer homered for the Intimidators.
• Birmingham’s Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) went 2-for-3 on Friday to end a slump. Wagner had his eighth double of the season.
He’s batting .195 in 57 games in Double A.
• Chattanooga was rained out on Thursday in what was scheduled to be the Double A debut for Dodgers prospect Corey Seager.
• Paul Kronenfeld (Catawba) hit his second pro homer on Thursday for the Reds team in the Arizona League.

The Run It Down alumni basketball tournament at North Rowan will be held on July 25-27. Teams from Carson, West Rowan, North Rowan, Salisbury, South Rowan, Davie, A.L. Brown and Lexington will compete.
The first game is at 5:30 p.m. on July 25 between Salisbury and Carson. There are three games scheduled on July 25.
Weekend pass — $10. Daily admission — $5
Dunk Contest and 3-point contest on July 27.
Free kids clinic — TBA.
Salisbury 49ers Police Athletic League football practice is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7 behind Hall Gym at 1300 West Bank St. The league has teams for ages 5-12.
