Davie Countyís top-seeded baseball team beat West Forsyth 7-1 for the CPC tournament championship on Friday night in Welcome.
ěWe wanted to pick up some more hardware,î Davie coach Mike Herndon said. ěThis is too much fun. We donít want to share anything.î
Ryan Foster (7-1) was the winning pitcher.
Carson Herndon had the big blow for the War Eagles, a three-run homer after falling behind 0-2 in the count in the sixth. Connor Bodenhamer had a two-run single in Davieís five-run sixth that broke open a tight game against the second-seeded Titans (20-5).
Jacob Barber had two hits for Davie. Alex Newman also knocked in a run.
Davie (22-2) hasnít lost since March 22. Itís won the Peeler tournament and the CPC regular season and tournament titles. The final goal is a state championship.
Davie will be at home for the first round of the 4A playoffs on May 13.
n East Davidson mauled Central Davidson 11-1 in six innings in a CCC semifinal and will be the opponent for Salisbury in Mondayís 7 p.m. championship game at Robertson Stadium.
Preston Gammons knocked in four runs and Davin Lawson had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Golden Eagles. Braxton Shetley (5-2) did the job on the mound.
Landon Clark was 2-for-2 in a losing cause.
n Albemarle won Thursdayís YVC championship game, beating North Moore 5-2 and taking the leagueís No. 2 seed for the 1A playoffs.
n UNC signee Grayson Atwood pitched Mount Pleasant to a 3-1 win against Robinson in Thursdayís SPC championship game.
That game finalized pairings for the SPC and NPC teams for the 3A state playoffs.
There will be two SPC-NPC matchups in the first round.
Robinson, the SPCís No. 4 seed, will play at NPC No. 2 West Iredell on May 13, while NPC No. 3 Carson will play at SPC No. 2 Mount Pleasant.
n South Rowan will play Charlotte Catholic at Pinevilleís Hughes Park in the first round on May 13.
n Prep softball
South Rowan lost 4-3 in eight innings to visiting North Iredell on Friday.
Leah McCoy pitched a complete game for the Raiders.
Nicole Barringer went 4-for-4 in her last home game and smacked two doubles and a triple.
Kaitlyn Jones had two hits. Jones and Katherine Starnes had doubles. Katey Knight also had a hit for the Raiders.
South returns to action with a road game in the NPC tournament on Monday.
n North Rowan (11-7, 10-6 YVC) cruised to a 19-1, three-inning win against South Davidson to finish the YVC regular season.
Kristin Harmon, a four-year starter at catcher, was honored on Senior Night.
Taylor Sells was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out four.
Sells had three hits, including a triple and a grand slam and drove in seven runs.
Brianna Mock had two doubles, Anna Lingle had a single and a double, Lindsey Hinson and Emily Gobble had three hits each, Jennifer Oakley had tow hits, and Harmon, Samantha Jacobs and Chasity Young had one hit each.
North will be seeded third or fourth for the YVC tournament and will play a first-round home game at 4:30 on Monday.
n Prep tennis
Individual regional tennis action starts today, with all six Salisbury players competing.
n College baseball
Catawba reliever Wil Huneycutt was named to the Capitol One Academic All-District 3 College Division baseball team.
Huneycutt, who carries a 3.97 GPA, was earlier named SAC Scholar Athlete for baseball.
n Pro baseball
The Kannapolis Intimidators managed just one-hit in a 1-0 home loss to the Greenville Drive.
The Intimidators have been involved in six straight one-run games and have lost five.
Spencer Arroyo was the hard-luck loser for the Intimidators.
Heiker Meneses hit a third-inning homer for the gameís only score.
The teams meet in Kannapolis again tonight.
n Salisbury resident Russ Adams, 30, announced his retirement from baseball on Thursday.
Adams was batting .180 at Triple A Buffalo
n Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) is trying to come back from a blood clot in finger and has begun throwing again. Heís supposed to pitch Saturday at the Metsí complex in Florida, and a minor league rehab assignment could follow shortly.
The Mets havenít given a timetable for his return.
n Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus, UNC) went 2-for-2 with two doubles on Thursday and is batting .337 for Double A Jackson in the Southern League.
n Hagerstownís Wade Moore (West Rowan) is down to a .200 batting average after starting May 2-for-12.
n Winston-Salemís Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) is at .231 after an 0-for-11 skid.
n Whit Merrifield (Davie) had two hits on Thursday and is batting .326 for Wilmington in the advanced Class A Carolina League.
n Youth baseball
Zoe Durner turned an unassisted triple play for Oí Charleyís Indians in a baseball game at Franklin Ellis.
n Middle school baseball
Corriher-Lipe defeated Knox 7-1.
A-rod Kennerly was the winning pitcher, striking out five and walking one in six innings. He allowed four hits.
Kameron McVay pitched a scoreless seventh.
Chandler Corriher had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Yellow Jackets at the plate.
Riley Myers had two hits, including a two-run homer, for the Trojans.
n China Grove Middle School got back in the win column with a 12-2 win against North Rowan.
Blake Johnson got the win going three innings giving up only one hit and walking none. Ryan Bearden pitched the final two innings to get the save.
Austin Corriher, Michael Morrison, Peyton Penninger and Brandon Sloop led the way offensively with two hits each.
China Grove winds up the regular season next week with games against West Rowan and Erwin.
n Youth basketball
The Lady Phenoms of Salisbury are holding a mini-camp in Kannapolis.
The host will be Damien Argrett, former star at South Rowan and Pfeiffer who played several years overseas.

In a Womenís Golf Association event at the Country Club of Salisbury, winner Betsey Edgeworth won low net with a 69.
Jayne Hubbard was second with a 71, and Jo Shaw placed third with a 77.
n Middle school tennis
Sacred Heart topped Salisbury Academy 6-3.
Singles winners for the Dolphins were Michael Childress, Spencer Storey, James Boyd, Justin Boyd and Ben Roy.
Max Fisher and Reilly Gokey teamed for a doubles win for the Dolphins (4-2).

n North Rowan lost to Knox 7-2. The doubles teams of Nnamdi Osakwe-Nick Leverett and Luke Miller-Mark Moore won for the Mavericks.
n Youth football
Three Salisbury 49ers teams swept the Rock Hill Cowboys.
Led by Mike McLeanís 50- yard TD run the 49ers (agees 7-8) won 21-13.
On the strength of a dazzling TD run by Raheim Morris, the 49ers (ages 9-10) won 6-0.
The 49ers (ages 11-12) rolled 41-6 behind Raheim Arnold, Jacque Smith and the Gray twins.
n Salisbury boosters
All Salisbury High parents are invited to the May 9 Athletic Booster Club meeting in the school cafeteria at 7 p.m.
Business and Hornet Heroes ads are now being accepted for the 2011 football program. Call the school office at 704-636-1221 for information.
n Hoops camp
Sacred Heart Boosters will hold their 2nd annual summer basketball camp at the school facility from June 13-17.
The camp is for students who will be grades 4-8.
Girls will attend morning sessions (8:30 to noon) and boys will have camp from 1-4:30 p.m.
Former college players and current SHCS varsity coaches Toni Barrios and Bob Burges are the camp directors.
Counselors will be players from area high schools. Area coaches will conduct clinics.
Each camper will receive a T-shirt, and concessions will be sold.
The cost is $60 for the week or $15 per day for those who cannot attend the entire week.

n Giants rally
SAN FRANCISCO ó Freddy Sanchez hit a game-ending RBI single in the ninth inning off Felipe Paulino, lifting the Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on a Friday night when San Francisco celebrated Willie Maysí 80th birthday.
Sanchezís line drive up the middle against Paulino (0-2) sent the Giants pouring out of the dugout and delighted a roaring crowd that came to toast Mays on a chilly, breezy night along San Francisco Bay.
Cody Ross led off the ninth with a double.
