Biker, Blues & BBQ Rally starts Thursday

SALISBURY – Fifty-five teams from seven states will go brisket to brisket this weekend at the second annual Biker, Blues & BBQ Rally at Tilley Harley-Davidson.
A Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned cookoff, the three-day event offers food, music, motorcycles and family fun for free.
Organizers anticipate the rally will become one of the largest Kansas City Barbecue Society events in the southeastern United States.
N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue has proclaimed the event a state championship.

Thursday:
• 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA WWII Recon Scout display
• 6 to 11 p.m. Pre-Event Party
Friday
• 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Recon Scout display
• 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. DJ Fast Freddie Thompson
• 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Pit Crew Challenge
• 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Barbecue & Blues Night featuring Big Ron Hunter and The Jill Dineen Band
Saturday
• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pit Crew Challenge
• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. DJ
• 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Recon Scout display
• 1:30 to 3 p.m. Steel Horse Band
• 2 to 3:30 p.m. People’s Choice competition
• 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Championship finals
• 4 p.m. Awards ceremony
• 6 to 9 p.m. Finale party featuring Right Turn Clyde
Last year, the event raised $1,000 each for three charities. Organizers hope to raise even more money this year for four military-related charities: Folds of Honor Foundation, Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project and Operation Homefront North Carolina.
Any veteran who attends the event will receive a free gift while supplies last, and organizers have purchased a special military flag for all veterans to sign.
