SALISBURY — Authorities charged a Salisbury teen with drug possession after a pair of digital scales fell out of his pocket during a search.
Salisbury Police officers stopped four men walking Wednesday at 10:48 p.m. along Standish and Hall streets. Two of the men were drinking beer and they were stopped for consuming an alcoholic beverage on city property, police said.
One of the men gave his name as Jose Nunez but was later identified as Jonathan Caballero Samano, 19, of Town Court. He was charged with resisting, obstructing, delaying an officer; possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.
As officers searched Samano, according to a report, a set of digital scales fell out of his pocket. Officers also spotted some marijuana in a cigarette box and discovered a bag with 5.6 grams of marijuana inside and a bag containing less than a gram of cocaine.
Samano was not being cooperative, said Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle. On Thursday, he remained in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond.
Christopher Dwayne Dozier, 23, consented to a search, a report said, and officers found marijuana in his front pocket. He was issued a citation for simple possession of marijuana, then arrested on an outstanding warrant from October 2011 for failure to appear in court.
Dozier was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
Police searched George Torrence and Christopher Roman but found nothing, the report said. Each was cited for consuming beer on city property.
