The Rowan Southern Baptist Association will host a National Day of Prayer service at the Bell Tower in downtown Salisbury on Thursday, May 3 at noon. The community invited to attend.
East Spencer prayer
EAST SPENCER — On the National Day of Prayer, May 3, the Town of East Spencer will host Community Prayer with midday fellowship, music and prayer on the steps of Town Hall from 11 a.m. until noon.

Prayer breakfast
A community prayer breakfast on the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 3, will be held at the J.F. Hurley Family YMCA. Breakfast, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Salisbury, begins at 6:30 a.m., music at 7 a.m. and a service at 7:15. RSVP to 704-636-0111.
Calling All Youth
The Salisbury District Varick International Christian Youth Council Department of Christian Education of the AME Zion Church will be holding an event for National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3. It will take place at the East Gateway at the fountain above the train depot, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
All churches are invited to bring their youth and children to join together to pray for our nation.
Event coordinator is Jeanette Rankin, Salisbury District Christian Education Director of Youth. Willie Boyd is Christian Education Director, and the Rev. Herbert Warren Jr., is Presiding Elder.
Anniversary tonight
CLEVELAND — Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church will celebrate its Senior Choir’s 43rd anniversary tonight, April 28 at 7 p.m.
First UMC China Grove
CHINA GROVE — The South Rowan Varsity Chorus will sing this Sunday, April 29 at both the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services at First United Methodist China Grove. The Varsity Singers, under the direction of Jan Gore, will perform several selections and will close the service with “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.”
Trinity UMC
Trinity United Methodist Church will be observing the fourth Sunday of Easter with a guest speaker. Judy Hosack, lay speaker, will speak on “It’s Time.”

Kimball Lutheran
KANNAPOLIS — Pastor Richard Rhoades is leaving Kimball after eleven years to accept a call to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newington, New Hampshire.
On Sunday, April 29 at Kimball, there will be a joint service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a farewell covered dish luncheon.

First Presbyterian
First Presbyterian Church, Salisbury will celebrate Youth Sunday on April 29. The middle school and senior high school youth will lead worship at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary and the seniors will give the sermon.
Immediately following the service is a congregational lunch in Lewis Hall. There will be a free-will offering and those proceeds will go to support the TWAM (Teens With A Mission) Costa Rica Mission Trip 2012.
Franklin Presbyterian
On Sunday, April 29, Franklin Presbyterian Church will host a retirement luncheon for Dr. Larry Summey after he preaches his last sermon at Franklin. The luncheon will start at 11:30 a.m.
Dr. Summey served Franklin faithfully for twenty years and will be missed.
Revival at 1st Baptist ALBEMARLE — The theme of the revival at First Baptist Church of Albemarle will be “Securing Your Identity.” beginning in the morning worship service on April 29.
The revival continues Sunday evening through Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Special guest speaker is Charles Royal.

MOCKSVILLE — A Twelve Tribes of Israel Program will be held on Sunday, April 29 at New Bethel Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Churches in the area have been invited to participate. The church is located at 3727 Hwy 601 South. Pastor is the Rev. William Cowan.
Gethsemane Missionary
Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. is the annual Rainbow Calendar Tea, a program sponsored by the Music Ministry of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. It will consist of the Youth, Gospel, Men, Hymn Choirs and the Praise Team.

Mt. Vernon
WOODLEAF — The Usher Board of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a program on Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. entitled, “Those Were the Years.” It will feature poetry and historical facts presented by Debra Brewer of Charlotte and Arneda Harper from Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Salisbury. A mime team will present a theatrical performance and Kenya Rankin (Ambassadors for Christ Church, Cleveland) will perform a liturgical dance.
A luncheon, consisting of a variety of down-home recipes of our ancestors, will be served prior to the program.

Blue Ridge concert
Blue Ridge, from Franklin NC, is a Southern gospel quartet. Also singing is Scotty Howard, a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
The concert is Sunday, April 29 at 6 p.m. in the Christ United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 3401 Mooresville Road. There is no admission charge, a love offering will be taken, and nursery is provided.

The Rowan and Davie County Deacons Alliance will be having a fellowship service on Sunday, April 29 at 4 p.m. at Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, where Elder Richard Johnson is pastor. The Rev. Arnie Woods, associate minister at Gethsemane Baptist Church, will speak.

The Salisbury-Rowan Unit of Church Women United in NC will celebrate this year’s May Friendship Day on Friday, May 4, in The Family Life Center of Christ United Methodist Church, 3401 Mooresville Road.
MFD will begin at noon with a $7 chicken salad box luncheon. Reservations must be made by calling 704-633-0976 by Monday, April 30.
Some young women, ages 21-45, from member churches will be honored as 2012 Outstanding Young Church Women as the national theme is “Listening to My Sisters.”

Lyerly Evangelical
ROCKWELL — Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, will host a community baby shower on Saturday, May 5 from 3-5 p.m. for the Pregnancy Support Center.
Baby items needed include wipes, lotion, powder, shampoo, clothes, bottles, diapers (preemie-6), car seats, booster seats, carriers, and other baby-toddler necessities. All items should be new, and no gift wrapping is necessary. Money donations will also be accepted.
Kristie Greene, Executive Director of the Pregnancy Support Center, will be present to answer questions about the services offered. Located at 847 South Main St. in Salisbury, the Center provides free and confidential assistance to clients with unplanned pregnancies. The Center does not perform or refer for abortion.
