Rain is expected overnight and Wednesday

SALISBURY – Rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the region tonight as a cold front moves through.
The National Weather Service forecasts that lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall could develop, though the worst of the weather is expected to be in Georgia and South Carolina. Storms are forecast to be more scattered in North Carolina. Heavy rain is possible along the mountains and over the foothills.
The temperature is expected to hit the upper 70s this afternoon, then drop to about 55 overnight. Storms are expected to develop after 11 p.m., with 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of rain possible.
Showers continue Wednesday, with a high near 62.
The rain is expected to clear Thursday and Friday, with daily highs back in the 70s. Rain and thunderstorms are back in the weekend forecast.
