SALISBURY — Part of a place is its people. They’re probably the most important part.

To share in those tales, Amy Williams of the Salisbury Post is kickstarting a podcast called Real Local Stories.

The first episode goes live on Monday with special guest Josh Sanders of Kannapolis, who is currently in the midst of a run on NBC’s The Voice. In the episode, Williams explores Sanders’ background, what makes him unique, and how Rowan County shaped who he is.

“I wanted to get people who have had an outsized impact on the area and the community,” Williams said of her guests. She has already conducted numerous interviews which will be released on a weekly basis.

Williams has a long history with podcasting. Before joining the Salisbury Post, she owned a podcasting company.

She and her family recently transplanted to North Carolina from Michigan.

“Since moving here has been such a great experience for our family, and finding a place where we feel like we belong, this seemed like the next step in the journey of learning more about North Carolina,” Williams said.

Williams explained that it also seemed like a good fit for her new employer.

“I saw an opportunity for the Salisbury Post to reach more people and tap into digital spaces in a new way,” Williams said.

Well the wait is finally over.

“There has been a lot of buzz about the podcast,” Williams said. “I feel like a lot of people have been talking about it.”

For Williams, the project has afforded a glimpse into various perspectives that illustrate the diverse makeup of Rowan County.

“We all have our own things going on, our trials and triumphs, lead us to where we are today,” Williams said. “Those stories are what make a community and make me happy to be sharing in them.

“I’m really honored to be the Host of this podcast and I’m excited to see where this journey goes.”
