WINSTON-SALEM (AP) — More than a dozen Republican candidates running in the primary for down-ballot North Carolina statewide races are geared up to impress voters who support the tea party movement.
Candidates seeking the GOP nomination for six elected positions planned to attend the NC Tea Party debate tonight on the Wake Forest University campus in Winston-Salem.
A tea party organizer says two of the five Republican candidates for lieutenant governor — Dale Folwell and Arthur Jason Rich — are slated to participate and only one of the five candidates for state auditor in Fern Shubert. All or a majority of the GOP hopefuls for secretary of state, schools superintendent, insurance commissioner and state treasurer have said they’ll participate.
The NC Tea Party says the debate also will be streamed online.
