Mo-ped rider critical after crash

SALISBURY — A mo-ped rider is in critical condition this evening after authorities said a van turned in front of him at the intersection of U.S. 601 and West Ridge Road.
David Coble, 37, of Cauble Road in Salisbury, was taken by ambulence to Rowan Regional Medical Center then flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
A hospital official said he was in critical but stable condition.
N.C. State Highway Patrol?Trooper J. Page said Coble was traveling south on U.S. 601 when a northbound van turned left onto West Ridge Road about 11:15 a.m.
Page said the driver of the van was David Fisher of Salisbury. Fisher was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing, Page said, and charges are pending.
