SALISBURY — Salisbury police are looking into thefts from pickups at local hotel parking lots that occurred Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

A 2014 Toyota Raptor was broken into while parked at the Comfort Suites, 1040 East Innes St., where a rear passenger window was busted. The thief stole a pair of chaps and a machete.  The value of the two items together was about $200 said police Lt. Lee Walker.

The owner of the vehicle was a guest at the hotel and reported the theft early Wednesday morning. The vehicle was last known to have been secured around 7 p.m., according to a department report.

A man also reported two vehicles, a Ford F-150 and a Toyota Tundra, were broken into sometime between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 1:30 a.m Wednesday. The vehicles were parked at the Quality Inn & Suites, 825 Klumac Road.

The driver’s side window was busted from the Toyota Tundra and a Smith & Wesson .45-caliber pistol was taken. Nothing was reported missing from the Ford F-150 but a back passenger window was busted and it was ransacked, Walker said.

In another incident, someone broke into a Toyota Tacoma that was parked at the Super 8 Motel, 925 Bendix Drive. A rear passenger side window was broken and the thief took $10 in change from the pickup.

Walker said the thefts are likely connected and were committed by the same person or people.
