SALISBURY — Two Salisburians were charged this week after police said a man bought a woman a hotel room and other items before she allowed the father of her children and others into the room to rob him.

Salisbury police charged Marissa Kaye Cook, 28, of Fairfield Lane, and Daniel Scott Yates, 29, also of Fairfield Lane, with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police said a 39-year-old man reported that Cook contacted him to say she needed a place to stay. The victim picked up Cook on Wednesday and took her to the Holiday Inn Express, 125 Marriott Circle, according to police Detective Russ DeSantis.

The two stayed together at the hotel. The victim then took Cook to Walmart where he bought her a cellphone and hygiene products. He took her to get food and then returned to the hotel room.

The victim told police that Cook was talking to someone on her phone while they drove back to the hotel. Soon after arriving at the hotel, there was a knock on the door.

According to DeSantis, a female friend of Cook and Cook’s boyfriend showed up at the door.

Then the friend, boyfriend and Cook went into the bathroom to talk for some time, the victim told police. The two then left.

The woman never returned but Cook’s boyfriend arrived with another male — the father of Cook’s children.

The victim was punched in the mouth and the suspects took money and a cellphone from him before running out of the hotel. DeSantis said they were arrested in Rockwell.

Yates was issued a $50,000 secured bond. Cook was issued a written promise to appear in court. No other arrests have been made.
