SPENCER — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the person who broke into a Spencer church and took off with $1,000 worth of sound equipment.

Someone broke two windows to gain entry into Yadkin United Methodist Church, 203 North Carolina Finishing Lane, according to Rowan Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

A church member told a deputy that someone broke into the church via a basement window and another window at the back of the church. The person rummaged through and took some kitchen items that were in the basement. It appears the suspect went through the basement door and locked it behind them, Sifford said.

The church member said the door was locked, but the deadbolt was not locked, Sifford said.

The deputy discovered several kitchen items strewn on the lawn outside the church. There was also what appeared to be tracks from an ATV or a golf cart near a window.

The church member told the deputy a soundboard, speakers and microphones were taken. The broken windows were valued at $100 each and a door that was damaged was also valued at $100, Sifford said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
