Livingstone women roll past St. Andrews, 80-49

SALISBURY — Livingstone evened its overall record to 12-12 here Wednesday night at New Trent Gym, behind a 80-49 women’s college basketball victory over St. Andrews.

Junior guard Daijah Turner had a monster game for the Blue Bears, who snapped a brief two-game losing streak. Turner scored 27 points, making 7-of-10 shots from the floor, including all six of her 3-point attempts. Turner also sank 7-of-8 free throws.

Another guard, senior Daisa Harris, also had a nice game, hitting 11-of-18 shots en route to 24 points. Harris also collected five rebounds and nine assists.

Darra Walker, also a senior guard, scored nine points for Livingstone, while Adel Allen and Victoria Onozie each had seven points and seven rebounds.

As a team, Livingstone shot 48 percent from the floor, making 30-0f-63 shots. The Blue Bears also limited their turnovers to just 13 miscues.

Coach Chiante Wester’s Livingstone team used a tremendous fourth quarter (29-14) to win going away. The Knights were competitive in the first half, trailing by 10 points at the break, 34-24.

St. Andrews, 6-17, was led by was led by 5-10 forward Samantha Ring with 11 points and five rebounds. Madison Gatewood scored nine points for the Knights.

NOTE: The Blue Bears return to action on Saturday, with a 2 p.m. game at Johnson C. Smith.
