College softball: Indians split on Senior Day

SALISBURY — Catawba’s softball team split on Saturday’s Senior Day.

Seniors honored in front of 315 fans at Whitley Field were Madison Taylor, Riley Tucker and Aniyah King.

The Indians beat UVA Wise 4-2  in the first game but lost 6-1 in the nightcap.

Courtnee Carter had the tie-breaking hit in the sixth inning in the first game.

Brianna Herring was the winning pitcher.

Carter and King had two hits each.

• Catawba (20-24, 8-12) had eight hits in the second game, but couldn’t string them together.

Carter and  Tucker had two hits apiece.

UVA Wise is 14-30 and 4-18 in the SAC.

Next for the Indians is a doubleheader against Limestone on Tuesday. Catawba is tied for eighth with Emory & Henry. Eight teams qualify for the SAC tournament.
