One of the beauties of spring is that it gives us the juxtaposition of old against new. This has been demonstrated perfectly this week with the blooms of a redbud next to Rowan County’s oldest house, the 1766 Old Stone House in Granite Quarry. Even the tree’s gnarled limbs sprout blooms this time of year. You can breathe in spring Saturday when Rowan Museum, owners of the Old Stone House, holds its annual Colonial Spring Frolic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds at 770 Old Stone House Road. Historical interpreters will demonstrate old-time crafts and skills, including the Colonial way of dyeing Easter eggs. There also will be games, dance, tastings and tours of the Old Stone House, which is opening for a new season. German immigrant Michael Braun built the historic landmark. The cost for the Colonial Spring Frolic is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
