GRANITE QUARRY —   East Rowan sophomore Jake Hunter still has a 0.00 ERA for the season after Tuesday’s 13-3 baseball win against South Iredell.

Hunter (2-1) has pitched 30 innings this season, striking out 53 and walking five.

The game was scoreless  until the bottom of the fifth. Wayne Mize hit a two-run homer with Charlie Klingler on base, and Hunter followed with a solo blast. Those were East’s first two homers of the season.

South Iredell tied it 3-all in the top of the sixth with the help of two errors.

But  the Mustangs exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game by the 10-run rule.  Bryson Wagner singled home the tiebreaking run.

Wagner had three hits and two RBIs. Hunter, JD Basinger and Avery Shull had two each. Klingler scored three runs. Mize knocked in three and scored three. East out-hit South Iredell, 11-2.

East (7-7, 3-2) moved into third place in the NPC, one game back of West Rowan and Carson.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan used a seven-run third inning to beat North Iredell, 9-3.

The Falcons (9-3, 4-1) were down 3-0 when they put together that big inning. J.T. Fecteau walked to force in the tying run and Cameron Graham’s bases-loaded walk put the Falcons ahead.

Steven Smith had two hits. Cade Bernhardt and Carsen Bailey came through at the bottom of the lineup and had two RBIs each.

Cullen Davis (3-1) pitched into the fifth inning. Davis and reliever Scout Nichols were able to pitch around five errors.

KERNERSVILLE — Davie County rolled at Glenn in Central Piedmont Conference baseball on Tuesday, 7-1.

Davie hurlers Carson Whisenhunt and Justin Chaffin combined for 15 strikeouts.

Aaron Williams had three hits, and Joe Johnson had three hits and two RBIs for the War Eagles (13-1, 5-0).

STATESVILLE — Carson pummeled Statesville on Tuesday, 12-2, to stay tied for first in the North Piedmont Conference with West Rowan.

Carson (11-2, 4-1) scored in every frame in the five-inning contest.

Luke Barringer clubbed his second homer of the season. He hit a two-run homer in the fourth after a Cole Hales double.

Zeb Burns had a huge day with a triple, two doubles and three RBIs. Garrett Alewine smacked three doubles. Logan Rogers went 3-for-3, and Dylan Driver had two hits.

Hales (4-1) pitched four innings for his fourth straight win, and Chase Drinkard finished up.

The Ledford at Salisbury game was postponed until today at 6 p.m.

Thursday’s Salisbury and Ledford game has been moved up to Thursday.

HS softball

STATESVILLE — West Rowan pitchers Whitley Arnott, Taylor Walton and Hannah Roberts combined on a no-hitter in  Tuesday’s 15-0 North Piedmont Conference win against Statesville.

Roberts pitched the last three innings and struck out five as the Falcons (10-2, 5-0) stayed on top in the North Piedmont Conference.

West pounded 20 hits.

Mary Sobataka had three hits, including a double and a homer, and drove in five runs.

Kenadi Sproul had three hits and scored four runs.

Roberts had three hits.

Reagan Haggas and Kimmie Mauney drove in two runs each.  Megyn Spicer, Cheyenne Barber and Arnott had two hits apiece.

CHINA GROVE — Katie Jewell snapped a 2-all tie with a homer leading off the bottom of the sixth and led Carson to a 7-2 win  against South Iredell on Tuesday.

The win enabled the Cougars (8-5, 4-1) to stay one game behind West Rowan in the North Piedmont Conference race.

Jewell was also the winning pitcher. She went the distance and struck out seven.

Maci Cooper and  Madison Anderson had doubles for the Cougars. Cooper drove in two runs. Kaitlyn Honeycutt was 2-for-2.

In South Rowan’s 16-5 Central Carolina Conference win on Monday against East Davidson,  Zoie Miller pitched a complete game for South (2-8, 2-7).

Madison McGuire and Kaylee Nelson had triples.

Courtney Mullins had three of South’s 15 hits.

McGuire and McKinley Faw had three RBIs apiece.  Ashlyn Plott and Anna Blume had two hits each.

Davie edged Reagan on Tuesday in Central Piedmont Conference action, 6-5.

Rachel Bostic pitched  a complete game and also had two RBIs.  Emma Patterson was 2-for-3.

Mooresville’s Ellie Goins homered twice on Tuesday and drove in six runs in a 14-8 win against Hough.

A.L. Brown rallied with a four-run sixth to beat Northwest Cabarrus in Tuesday’s South Piedmont Conference contest.

West Montgomery overpowered North Rowan on Tuesday, 20-0, in a Yadkin Valley Conference game.

Anna Everhart, McKenzie Shoaf and Lily Savage had hits for the Cavaliers.

HS boys golf

East Rowan’s golf team rolled to a runaway win at Statesville Country Club on Tuedsay.

Colby Patterson was the standout for the Mustangs, firing a 1-under 35 in tough conditions. Cole Mabry shot 43 for East. Austin Miller shot 44, while Alex Miller shot 45.

Ethan Scarborough’s 43 led Carson.

Davis Tadlock shot 44 to pace West Rowan.

HS girls soccer

Carson stayed undefeated in the North Piedmont Conference by routing Statesville on Tuesday, 9-0.

  Gracie Thomason scored three goals for the Cougars.  Riley Isley scored two, and Hannah Isley, Lani Isley, Kate Carter and Estefani Perez-Vega had one each.

West Rowan turned in a 2-1 North Piedmont Confernce win against North Iredell on Tuesday with Ryley Corriher making 15 saves.

Selma Mehmedovic and Rustyn Orbison scored for the Falcons.  Assists were by Mackenna Clifton and Grace Webb.

College baseball

SALISBURY — Greg Brown took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as  Catawba rolled to a 12-2 win over Barton in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Newman Park.

Brown struck out 11.

With the win, the fourth-ranked Catawba Indians improved to 31-8.  The Bulldogs dropped to 23-15.

Hunter Shepherd and Jackson Raper homered for the Indians.

Shepherd and Lee Poteat had three hits each.  Cameron Morrison had two hits, including a triple. Jeremy Simpson scored three runs.

College golf

Catawba’s women’s golf team took the title of the Agnes McAmis Memorial women’s golf tournament, beating host Tusculum in a playoff on Tuesday.

The two-day tournament was held at the 5,910-yard, Par 72 Link Hills Country Club.

Catawba and Tusculum tied at 618 after two rounds, but the Catawba Indians scored the win on the first playoff hole. Catawba’s four scores of 19 were two better than the 21 by the Pioneers. The win marked the first for the Catawba women since claiming the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in October of 2006.

Individually, Catawba’s Kaley Barts   finished two shots back after two rounds of 73 for a 146. Sarah Coltrane nabbed third at 147.

Catawba will begin play at the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Sunday at the Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory.

Catawba’s men’s team finished 17th at the Tennessee River Rumble which concluded on Tuesday. The event was hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the 7,018-yard, par-72 Wind River Golf Course.

Catawba’s Tanner Bibey shot an even par 72 on Tuesday and nearly moved into the top 20. His 148 total put him 21st.

  Mid. school golf

Salisbury Academy won a five-school match at Warrior  on Tuesday with a score of 167.

Finishing second was Erwin with 169. The Eagles were followed by Community School of Davidson (179), North Hills (213) and Southeast (215).

Pacing the Jaguars (13-3) was medalist Warren Fesperman with a 1-under par 35. He was followed by John McCoy (43), Gigi Nagy (44) and Hank Webb (46).

Leading the way for Erwin was Jaden Sprinkle with a 36 and Landon Merrell with a 39.

Low scorer for Southeast was Dalton Bostian (51). Low scorer for North Hills was Reese Merrell (49).

Local golf

John Henderlite made a hole-in-one on the No. 6 hole at the Country Club of Salisbury.

He used a 6-iron from 159 yards,  His wife, Hen, was the witness.

Tim Goodman made a hole-in-one on No. 7 at Rolling Hills. Goodman used a 6-iron on the 150-yard hole.

Chris Jones and Jake Carlton witnessed the feat.

The GARS played a Captains Choice  at Corbin Hills GC.

The team of Larry Petrea, Bobby Miller, Johnny Graham and Tommy Ellis took first place with a minus-11.  Second with a minus-9 was the team of Phil Cauble, Thomas Dodge, Larry Luther and John Cress.  Third place went to the team of Frank Masingo, Lou Manning, Gene Cauble and Steve Masingo with a minus-8.   Fourth place with a minus-7 was the team of Don Bishop, Ralph Luther, PaulRogers, Donnie Burris and Andy Yarnot.

Closest to the pin on No. 2hole was won by Larry Petrea.  Longest putt on No. 9 was made by Larry Clifton.

Eagles were made by Petrea, Ellis, Miller and Graham on No. 11 and No. 18.

Pope, Ford, Clifton and Shook eagled the No. 11 hole, while Caldwell, Osborne, Talbert and Labarbera eagled No. 6.
