High school baseball roundup: East, Carson, South, Salisbury, North win non-conference games

OAKBORO — A three-run fifth inning proved decisive for Carson’s baseball team in a 4-2 win over West Stanly (15-5) on Wednesday.

Gage Trexler pitched six strong innings for the Cougars (14-9) and got relief help in the seventh from Nolan Tovronik and Daxton Savage.

Savage got the last two outs for a save.

Jayven Parks had two of Carson’s six hits. He had a double, scored a run and drove in a run.

Cam Williamson knocked in a run.

Corbin Hales, Carson Kirk, Will Bradshaw and Caden Lewis had hits for the Cougars.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan continued one of the best seasons in program and county history.

The Mustangs (23-1) scored five times in the second inning, added three runs in the third and beat Lake Norman 10-4 on Wednesday on Senior Night at Staton Field.

Joe Burleyson threw five dominant innings for East, allowing one hit and striking out four Wildcats (11-12).

Cobb Hightower led East’s offense with two doubles and four RBIs.

Sam Blackwelder had two hits and scored two runs.

Braden Shive and Harrison Ailshie drove in two runs each.

Logan Dyer scored three runs. Krys Hernandez scored twice.

LANDIS — South Rowan scored in the bottom of the seventh to beat Piedmont 6-5 on Wednesday’s Senior Night.

South (12-11) scored five in the second to lead 5-2, but Piedmont (10-11) got back to 5-all.

South is 30th in the 3A West RPI rankings, while Piedmont is 31st.

South plays a conference game on Thursday at Lake Norman Charter.

TAYLORSVILLE — West Rowan’s late-season slump continued with a 3-0 loss at Alexander Central on Wednesday.

Alexander Central (10-11) scored three runs in the first inning.

Maddox Moore pitched a complete game for the Falcons (16-7), striking out eight, while allowing four walks and three hits.

Gage Scruggs had two of West’s four hits. Moore and Cole Blevins had the others.

SPENCER — Chase Cauble pitched a complete game to lead North Rowan to a 15-5 win against Albemarle on Wednesday.

Cauble and Brayden Mahlaley had three hits each for the Cavaliers (3-12).

North took advantage of 10 errors by the Bulldogs (1-13) and pulled away with a six-run sixth.

MISENHEIMER — Salisbury scored five runs in the sixth inning and won 10-0 at Gray Stone on Wednesday.

Evan Koontz allowed one hit in five innings and struck out seven. Hank Webb struck out four Knights (2-14) in two innings.

Koontz had a triple, scored two runs and drove in two for the Hornets (12-10).

Landon Tucker had two hits and two RBIs.

Jaylin Graham-Taylor had two hits. Jackson Sparger had two RBIs.

Mike Geter and Aiden Mowery scored two runs.

Geter had a double.

A.L. Brown lost 6-1 at Cuthbertson on Wednesday. The Wonders are 7-15.
