Boys roundup …

MOUNT GILEAD — North Rowan’s boys had to rally to beat West Montgomery on the road in a Yadkin Valley Conference game on Friday.

Senior Brevin Goodlett scored 29 to lead the Cavaliers to a 65-57 victory. Goodlett bumped his career total to 917 points.

“They came out really hot and made three 3-pointers right off the bat,” North coach Jason Causby said. “We made some turnovers, mishandled some passes and got in a hole. We got down by as many as 11.”

North (8-2, 4-0) closed the game considerably by halftime and got the lead in the third quarter.

“Kendrell Goodes  made a big 3-pointer with about two minutes left that finally put us in control,” Causby said. “We were able to make some free throws and Dayjuwon Cooke got some big rebounds to help us finish it off.”

Cooke had 16 points. Derrick Page scored seven.

Guard Terell Baldwin and center Q.J. Drake scored 19 each for the Warriors (5-4, 2-3).

“West Montgomery is a scrappy team and played very hard, but we also know we’ve got to play better,” Causby said. “It wasn’t like we were flat or not ready to play. We had plenty of energy, but some of it was misplaced energy.”

North Rowan returns to Catawba tonight to play Salisbury at 7:30 p.m. North’s jayvees will open a triple-header at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity girls game at 6 p.m.

North had a disappointing showing in the recent Christmas tournament at Catawba, going 1-2 and finishing fourth after coming in undefeated.

A.L. Brown

KANNAPOLIS — A.L. Brown bounced back from Thursday’s loss to East Rowan with a 62-51 win against Providence  on Friday.

The game was played at Kannapolis Middle School, with painting going on at Bullock Gym.

Kheni Briggs, a freshman, led the Wonders (11-1) with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Amara Haynes scored 14, while Amari Grier had 11.

 

South Rowan

LANDIS — Lexington overpowered South Rowan for a Central Carolina Conference win on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets (6-6, 6-1) got 28 points from standout guard Derrick Dearmon and 25 from 6-foot-9 Alex Holt.

Elijah Gaskin led South (1-9, 1-4) with eight points. Jayden Dextraze scored seven, and Brenden Finger had five.

South had lost eight in a row.

 

Salisbury

Salisbury romped at Central Davidson, 68-25, in a CCC game on Friday.

Salisbury (8-3, 6-1) started slowly but blew the game open in the second quarter and led 41-16 at halftime.

Zay Kesler led the Hornets with 11 points. Mike McLean and Raheim Walker scored nine each. Fourteen Hornets scored.

Davie County

GREENSBORO — Davie County suffered its first loss of the season on Friday, falling at Northwest Guilford, 59-46.

Davie (10-1) got down 20-8 after the first quarter but got back even at halftime. After a tight third quarter, NW Guilford (10-2) pulled away in the fourth quarter.

NW Guilford was ranked 13th in 4A by MaxPreps, while Davie came into the game 17th.

Troy Griggs led the War Eagles with 14 points. Owen McCormack scored 12, while Michael Walton had 10.

NW Guilford got 21 points from 6-8 Dean Reiber and 18 from Christian Hampton.

North Davidson beat Central Davidson in a Central Carolina Conference game, 90-53.

Themus Fulks had 36 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to lead the Black Knights (5-3, 3-0). Landon Moore scored 20.

Jensen Leonard led the Spartans with 18 points.

Thomasville outscored West Davidson in a wild CCC game, 88-80.

Jordan Williams scored 33 for the Bulldogs, while Drew Wright had 36 for West Davidson.

Savon Brintley scored 16 points to lead East Forsyth (8-3) to a 52-45 win against Greensboro Page.

Jaden Ellis scored 19 for the Pirates (7-6).
