As part of their ongoing community engagement efforts, the Salisbury Police Department is hosting the Foot Pursuit 5K on Saturday evening, May 12. Start and finish are both at PD headquarters at the corner of Lee and Liberty streets. The department officers will both volunteer and run/walk in the event. The 5K starts at 7 p.m. Walkers are encouraged to participate.

Race Director Lt. Patrick Smith said, “This event is part of our ongoing community engagement efforts. We support Special Olympics and all proceeds will benefit that program while the 5K will also help us kick off Police Week. The idea arose from a staff discussion and we feel that this 5K is a way for people to come out and connect to their police department, get to know officers and build lasting relationships. We plan to provide more of these events in the future as community outreach.”

Officers will both volunteer for and participate in the race. Age group awards will be given in eight age groups for male and female. Top three overall male and females will also get special awards. All participants will get a quality dri-fit T-shirt and plenty of refreshments will be available afterwards.

Registration continues through Friday at www.sportoften.com and a printable race brochure is available at www.salisburyrowanrunners.org . The brochure can be used for mail-in registration or dropped off at the PD. Race day registration will begin at 5:45 p.m.
