SALISBURY — A tip from the public led to the arrest of a local man on drug and weapons charges this weekend.

The Salisbury Police Department charged Adam Lee Gibson, 28, of the 600 block of East Franklin Street, with felony possession of a firearm by a felon; simple possession of marijuana; failure to appear for driving while license revoked; robbery with a dangerous weapon; felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Police say they received a tip that Gibson would be picking up his girlfriend from work just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers stopped his vehicle in the parking lot of Dollar Tree, 1349 Klumac Road. In a search of his vehicle, officers found a bag containing marijuana and a Keltec pistol, both in plain view, a police report said.

Police say because Gibson is a convicted felon, he is not supposed to have a weapon.

Gibson has previous convictions for possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon and felony marijuana possession. He has also been convicted of misdemeanor larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, felony breaking and entering, traffic infractions, resisting arrest and assault on a female.

Gibson remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $255,000 secured bond.
