Thanks for rescue, but is there more?
How wonderful that the 147 dogs rescued by Rowan County Animal Control have been adopted or placed in loving temporary homes and awaiting adoption! I should change that statement to read “the dogs that Rowan County Animal Control was asked to pick up,” according to the article in Saturday’s Post.
I understand the owners decided to turn over the animals to Animal Control because they could no longer care for them. It’s not like these owners didn’t know how all these puppies and dogs came to be here. And wouldn’t they know once they had them that they would have to take care of them and feed them?
I believe animals are a lifetime commitment. I suggest the Post writer check with the Humane Society of Rowan County and the Rowan County Animal Shelter to see if there’s more to this story than reported in Saturday’s Post.
As a follow-up, it might be interesting to know if all the dogs and puppies are well and thriving at this time or if perhaps some of them were lacking in the basic health care one would expect from an owner. Had they even been vaccinated?
Many thanks to those who had a part in rescuing these dogs. Remember there are many more in this community in need of loving homes, too. True, they’re not all “pretty” breeds, but they deserve a chance at life and love, too.
Also, I think laws should be changed so that puppy mills could no longer stay in business.
These kind of breeders are not the kind to care or love animals or they would not have animals in these kinds of conditions except to profit from them.
Also, please spay and neuter your pets because there are far too many animals already that don’t get a chance to get a loving home.

Just think of it
Instead of calling it the “fair,” why don’t they call it “we rip you right.” If Rhonda Stirewalt made money last year and this year (before they ran her off), think of what the other vendors made with their outrageous prices. With money as tight as it is right now, then the fair tells you you aren’t gouging people enough, what does that tell you?
Go to the fair if you want to be ripped off, but stay away if you don’t.

Not afraid to speak
In answer to Dee Sink’s Sept. 26 letter (“More Obama, less Palin): Finally someone in this town gets it and is not afraid to say so! Thanks Dee!
