Livingstone College’s golf team shot 312 and finished first in the Blue Bear Invitational at the Revival at the Crescent Golf Club on Wednesday.

Livingstone’s Alex Stuart (76) and Philip Harrison (77) placed second and third, respectively on the leaderboard.

Benedict College and Johnson C. Smith University were the other competing teams. The Blue Bears won the event by 12 strokes over the Golden Bulls.

DeJuan Powell of J. C. Smith shot 1-over 73 for medalist honors.

Livingstone plays in the Trojan Fall Classic, hosted by Virginia State, on Sept. 22-24.

Prep boys soccer

Salisbury  won against North Davidson, 1-0, in  Central Carolina Conference soccer on Wednesday.

The Hornets are 4-5-1 and 3-3 in the CCC.

Keeper-turned-center back Jack Fisher converted a penalty kick with 14 minutes remaining to provide the margin of victory.

Josh Faulkner preserved the shutout in goal for the surging Hornets.  Salisbury got excellent play from Bryan Cortez Garcia.

Salisbury is at East Davidson tonight. The JV/varsity doubleheader times are 5:30 and 7 p.m.

South Rowan lost to Central Davidson, 3-1, in CCC soccer on Wednesday.

Miguel Bernal scored for the Raiders. Parker Anderson made seven saves.

Prep girls tennis

Salisbury won against Central Davidson, 8-1, in Central Carolina Conference play on Wednesday.

The Hornets (11-2, 11-0)  stayed in first place.

Winning for the Hornets in singles  were Maria Capito, Emma Nianouris, Skye Mowery,  Meredith Burton,   Bethanie Stauffer  and Julia Honeycutt.

Capito/Nianouris and Stauffer/Burton won in doubles.

Salisbury plays at West Davidson this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

North Davidson cruised to an 8-1 win over West Davidson to stay one game back of the Hornets.

West Rowan’s girls won at East Rowan, 6-3, on Wednesday in North Piedmont Conference action.

(1) Payton Holt, (2) Madison Smith, (4) Skylar Jahnke, (5) Mira White, and (6) Kelsie Crider won singles matches for the Falcons (4-3, 3-2 NPC).

West’s winning doubles team was Jahnke/White.

(3) Mia Graham took a tiebreaker for East’s singles win.

Angel Scialdone/Lauren Weisensel and Graham/Kristen Brady won doubles matches.    

West Rowan plays at Carson today.

Carson stayed undefeated in the NPC on Tuesday by beating Statesville, 9-0.

Emily Sloop, Gabi Jolly, Siera Fesperman, Jadyn Kirkpatrick, Maci Cooper and Quinnlan Watson won in singles.

Jolly/Fesperman, Sloop/Kirkpatrick and Cooper/Watson won in doubles.

Prep girls golf

Hailey Fesperman shot 41 to lead East Rowan to a win in North Piedmont Conference golf on Wednesday.

East’s Carmen Fraley shot 43, and East’s Camryn Corriher shot 45.

East’s extra player Grace Howell shot 43 and qualified for the next conference match.

Carson shot 156 for third place. Scorers were  Sophia Brown (51), Kaiya Addison (52) and Michelle  Morgan (53).

Maddie Owen (63) led West Rowan.

South Iredell finished second at 150.

Prep volleyball

In West Rowan’s loss to  North Iredell on Tuesday, Ava Link had 25 assists;  Tori Hester had 10 kills and 13 digs; Braelyn Faust had eight kills, and Hannah Pratt had 14 digs.

West (10-1) plays at Carson (11-2) today. The varsity match will start around 6 p.m.

Prep cross country

Salisbury swept a three-team meet with West Davidson and South Rowan on Tuesday at the tough Boone’s Cave course.

Salisbury’s Keegan Dillon won the boys race in 19:32.

Freshman Noah Julian led South Rowan runners.He was third in 20:18.

South Rowan’s Madison Lowery was the individual  winner in the girls race. She ran 22:05.

Leah Cressler  led Salisbury runners. She was timed in 23:41 for third place.

Mid. school tennis

Knox lost to Salisbury Academy, 6-3, on Wednedsay.

Singles winners for Knox were Sophie Chmiel and Abby Campion. The team of Campion/Chmiel   won in doubles.

Knox is at Mooresville today.

Mid. school football

In seventh-grade football, Knox won against West Rowan, 22-20.

JaMichael Wells scored  three touchdowns for Knox, scoring on runs of 22 and 39 yards and catching a 26-yard scoring pass from  Chris Toomer.

Wells and Toomer scored 2-point conversions on runs.

  Dylan Upright  had scoring runs of 54 and 67 yards for West.  Peter Williams-Simpson added a 42-yard TD run, while Athan Gill added a 2-point conversion run.

The game was tied 8-all at halftime. Knox scored with three minutes left  to overcome a 20-16 West lead. Both teams are 1-1.

  China Grove’s seventh-graders   defeated Southeast, 30-6.

D’Arrion Cuthbertson scored four touchdowns, tallying on runs of 27, 41, 89 and 90 yards. He also had  a PAT run.

Edwin Rodriguez kicked two PATs.

Defensive standouts for the Red Devils were Landon Hughes, Cam Burleyson, Cuthbertson  and Aquiles Bernal.

China Grove’s eighth-grade team  defeated Southeast, 22-0.

Scoring for China Grove were Nathan Chrismon on a 5-yard run and a 58-yard interception return.  Gabe Pozyck scored on a 5-yard run. Jacob Ritchie kicked two PATs.

Defensive standouts for the  Red Devils were Chrismon, Ritchie, Keison Tillman, Jamie Smith, Brandon Haas, JD James and Max Bradshaw.

College soccer

Catawba’s men lost to Newberry, 4-2, on Wednesday in a South Atlantic Conference matchup.

Omer Green and Tom Joyce scored for Catawba (0-5, 0-2 SAC).

Catawba is back in action on Saturday at Coker.

Shelby Thompson made three saves for Catawba (3-2, 2-0 SAC).

For the first time since Sept. 17, 2015, the Pfeiffer men’s soccer team  suffered a defeat at N.E. Lefko Field on Wednesday.

Pfeiffer (1-4) fell to Methodist, 3-2, ending a 32-match home winning streak.

Low ‘A’ Flight player was Les Loman with a net of 62.21. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Tommy Lambert with a net of 64.87.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was Ken Miller with a net of 60.84. Low ‘D’ Flight player was Gerald Osborne with a net of 70.64.

Larry Petrea and Winsten Mahaffey tied for low gross score with 72s.
