SALISBURY — Police say two separate domestic violence incidents on different nights landed two men in the Rowan County jail.

Officials said the men attacked their former girlfriends. A 13-year-old was nearly struck during one altercation.

The Salisbury Police Department said officers responded to an anonymous call about 9 p.m. Thursday from Marlow’s Barbecue & Seafood restaurant, 2030 Statesville Blvd.

An officer was flagged down by a woman who said her ex-boyfriend had broken into her apartment. He first banged on her door and she refused to let him in, she told police, but he gained entry by breaking a front screen and crawling through the window.

Police charged James Blake Sides, 46, of the 200 block of North Long Street with misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor assault on a female.

The woman said her former boyfriend pushed her to the floor and punched her. She had red marks on her chest and arms when police spoke with her, a report said.

Police said Sides tried to hit the woman’s 13-year-old daughter in the process. He fled on foot but was found a short time later at Marlow’s Barbecue riding a scooter. Police had gotten a description of a gold Honda that he may have been driving. The car was also parked at the restaurant. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center, where he remains without bond because it is a domestic violence case.

In the second incident, police charged James Jermaine Little, 26, of the 1200 block of Forestdale Drive with misdemeanor second-degree trespassing. He also had outstanding warrants from a December incident for second-degree trespassing, assault on a female, assault on a child or minor, and injury to personal property.

Police went to Brookview Apartments, 711 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., where a woman told them her ex-boyfriend was in her apartment and was intoxicated and refused to leave. Police received a call to the complex from a third party. When police walked into the apartment, they said, James Little was in an upstairs room holding a beer bottle.

Little told police his first name was Clark, but the officer knew his real name. Police determined that James Little had been banned from the complex on a prior occasion. When officers searched Little they found his ex-girlfriend’s debit card in his pocket. Police said Little also had thrown the woman’s belongings around the apartment. A report said it didn’t appear anything was damaged.

Little remains in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond because it is a domestic violence case.
