Area Sports Briefs: Pfeiffer men win

MISENHEIMER The Pfeiffer men’s basketball team (14-3, 7-3 CC) improved to   9-0 at home with a 101-84 victory over North Greenville (6-10, 1-8) on Wednesday night.

Josh Calhoun paced the Falcons in scoring with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

   Mike Smith (19), Andrew Guerrero (17) and A.J. Clark (13)  also scored in double figures for the Falcons.

Aliyah Farmer (North Rowan) had 11 points and nine rebounds for Mars Hill in Wednesday’s  63-52 win over Brevard.

Twins Shenell and Shenique Pharr (East Rowan) are playing now for Salem. Shenell had 14 points in her debut, and Shenique scored four.

BLACKSBURG, Va.     Seth Allen  scored the final two of his 17 points on a layup with 15 seconds left to lift Virginia Tech to a 62-61 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday night.

Zach LeDay added 17 points for Virginia Tech, which led by as many as nine in the second half, but couldn’t put away the Yellow Jackets (11-7, 3-3).

BOSTON    Playing only 25 minutes apiece, Devon Hall scored 13 points and Isaiah Wilkins had 11 points and nine rebounds to help No. 16 Virginia beat Boston College 71-54 on Wednesday night.

Darius Thompson scored 10 points off the bench, reserve Kyle Guy added eight more and Ty Jerome had five points and five assists.

Davidson County Community College topped Sandhills CC, 92-88, on Wednesday.

Jeremy Ritter led the Storm with 23 points.

Wingate’s men picked up their seventh consecutive victory Wednesday night, holding third-ranked Queens to a season-low 64 points in a 71-64 victory in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action. Wingate improves to 10-7 overall and 7-4 in the SAC, while the Royals fall to 16-1 overall and 10-1 in the conference.
