Carsons Natasha Howell finished second in the discus and third in the shot put at the 3A state meet on Saturday in Greensboro.
Howell threw the discus 108 feet, 6 inches. West Cravens Vicki Mitchell won at 124-10.
Howell threw the shot 36-612, and Havelocks Courtney Prichard won with an effort of 36-11.
Carsons Courtney Cress had a high jump of 4-10 to finish 14th, and the Cougars placed 19th in the team standings with 14 points. T.C. Roberson won with 51, and Mooresville won the boys competition with 60 points. Jamel Allison won the triple jump and was third in the long jump to spark the Devils.
n Jones has strong meets
N.C. State shot putter Jason Jones (East Rowan) was fourth in a meet at N.C. Central on Saturday with a throw of 53-1012 inches. Jones placed third at the Duke Twilight Meet with an effort of 54-834.
n Regional tennis
Salisburys Joe Goodman, Austin Flynn and the doubles team of Ryan Cornelison-Tyler Heilig lost in the first round of the 2A Midwest Regional tennis tournament on Friday.
Goodman, seeded third, fell 6-3, 6-2 to Newton-Conovers Allan Pernell. Flynn lost 6-1, 6-2 to Newton-Conovers Won Lak Choi. Cornelison-Heilig, seeded third in doubles, lost 6-2, 6-1 to the Hibriten duo of Avery Nelson and Huntley Nero.
In finals action Saturday, Hibritens Robert Benitez beat Choi 6-4, 6-3 for the singles title and Mathieu Bureau-George Lampron of North Lincoln beat Nelson-Nero 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 for the doubles title.
Salisbury will play host to Hibriten in the second round of the 2A dual-team tournament Tuesday.
n College baseball
Charlottes Spencer Steedley (East Rowan) pitched three strong innings with four strikeouts on Sunday, but his day was ended by a rain delay of 2 hours, 26 minutes. Charlotte won 4-2. n Belmonts Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) had a two-run double in a 5-3 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday. The freshman is batting .325.
n Middle school baseball tournament
Fifth-seeded West Rowan Middle defeated No. 4 Southeast 8-6 in the first round of the Rowan County Conference Tournament on Saturday. No. 3 Corriher-Lipe beat No. 6 North Rowan Middle 11-0, and No. 2 Erwin defeated No. 7 Knox 14-1.
Top-seeded China Grove plays Wests Bulldogs in a semifinal on Monday. West is the tourney host.
n Intimidators win
John Shelbys three-run double paced the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 9-2 victory over Savannah on Saturday. It was Kannapolis fifth straight win.
n Bobby Jackson Basketball CampThe Bobby Jackson Basketball Camp is returning to Salisbury this summer. The day camp will be held daily from 9-4 on July 8-12. Activities will be at Miller Recreation Center and Jacksons alma mater, Salisbury High. The all-star game will be on July 11.The golf classic that kicks off the camp week will be held on July 7 at a course to be announced.

n Blankenbeker gets ace in Badin
Salisburys Chad Blankenbeker, 13, made his first hole-in-one when he aced the No. 2 hole at Badin Inn Golf Resort and Club on Saturday.
Blankenbeker used a 7-iron on the 139-yard hole.
Witnessing the ace was his father, Steve, and another foursome.
