RALEIGH — Hall of Fame coach Kay Yow earned her 700th career win when she led N.C. State to a 68-51 victory over Florida State on Monday.

Yow, who returned to the bench two weeks ago after two months away to fight breast cancer, became the sixth Division I women’s coach to reach 700 wins. She has spent 32 of her 36 seasons as the Wolfpack’s coach, averaging 20 wins per season at N.C. State.

Her career record is 700-321.

“The players stepped onto the court tonight really ready to play,” Yow said to an enthusiastic crowd moments after the win. “I’m really proud of the way they played. We just look forward to you coming out and supporting us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

The other women’s coaches who have reached the 700-win mark are Tennessee’s Pat Summitt, Texas’ Jody Conradt, Rutgers’ Vivian Stringer, North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell and former LSU coach Sue Gunter.

Gillian Goring led the Wolfpack (17-7, 6-3 ACC) with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Former Salisbury star Shayla Fields had seven points, two assists, one rebound and one turnover in 35 minutes.

N.C. State led 41-19 at the break.
