East Rowan’s girls beat Carson, 5-4, in South Piedmont Conference tennis. The match was completed on Tuesday after being suspended by darkness on Monday.
Singles were 3-all. East won two of the three doubles matches.
At No. 1 singles, Carson’s Emily Sloop won 6-0, 6-0 against East’s Katie Barnes.
Carson’s Gabi Jolly won 6-4, 6-4 against East’s Angel Scialdone at No. 2.
East’s Lauren Weisensel won 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 against Carson’s Margaret Correll at No. 3.
At No. 4, East’s Mia Graham won 6-0, 6-0 gainst Carson’s Olivia Weatherby.
At No. 5, Carson’s Maci Cooper won 6-3, 6-1 against East’s Shannon Mahaffey.
At No. 6, East’s Alana Miller won 6-1, 6-1 and Carson’s Quinland Watson.
At No. 1 doubles, Carson’s Sloop/Correll won 10-7 against Barnes/Scialdone.
At No. 2 doubles, East’s Weisensel/Mahaffey won 10-1 against Jolly/Watson.
At No. 3 doubles, East’s Graham/Miller won 10-2 against Carson’s Weatherby/Cooper.
East is 2-1 and 2-0 in the SPC.
Carson is 1-1 in the SPC.

Prep soccer
West Rowan won, 5-3, against East Rowan in SPC soccer on Tuesday.
Leo Guzman had a hat trick for the Falcons. Cristyan Cabrera scored two goals. Getting assists were Darreon Gittens, Francisco Sanchez, Esteban Trujillo and Cabrera.
It was the first win of the season for West.
Alex Kalogermitros had two goals for the Mustangs. Landon Ketchie had a goal. Luis Heitz, James Lomax and William Garland had assists.

Salisbury improved to 7-2-2 with a 2-0 road win over the Randleman Tigers on Tuesday.
“We came out strongly instead of tentatively and gained confidence with players in positions they are unaccustomed to playing,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said.
Andrew Kalogeromitros scored both Salisbury goals on assists from Santiago Caballero and Will Austin.
Kalogeromitros’ first score came less than three minutes into the contest on a corner. The second goal came 12 minutes later.
Jack Fisher recorded the shutout and three saves in goal.
The Hornets were without defensive stalwart Pedro Cruz due to illness.
Melvin Bonilla (usually a forward) filled in at center back and was outstanding in relief of Cruz. Also playing well for Salisbury were Bryan Cortez, Luke Holland, Daniel Tinajero, Brody Dillon and Angel Quintero.
Randleman is 1-8-1.
“ Randleman’s record is not indicative of their capabilities,” Parrish said.
Salisbury plays CATA in Monroe on Monday in a doubleheader. Game times are 5 p.m. and 6:30.

Prep volleyball
East Rowan won, 3-2, against Robinson in SPC action on Tuesday.
Scores were 25-20, 20-25, 10-25, 25-22 and 15-13.
Jordan McCall had 24 assists, 11 kills, six aces and 10 digs for the Mustangs. Baleigh Hill had 28 digs and two aces. Courtney Wagner had 14 kills and four aces. Olivia Wright had six kills and three blocks.

Carson swept Northwest Cabarrus, while Cox Mill swept Central Cabarrus. The Cougars and Chargers stay tied for first in the SPC.
West Rowan swept Concord, 25-10, 25-15, 25-22, while Hickory Ridge swept South Rowan, 25-8, 25-12 and 25-16. Salisbury was swept by East Davidson 25-19, 25-18 and 25-23 in its first CCC outing.

College golf
Catawba topped a 10-team field to claim the championship of the Anderson Invitational men’s tournament.
The Indians took a four-shot win over Southern Wesleyan, finishing with a 595 total on rounds of 295 and 300. The two-round event concluded on Tuesday at Cobb’s Glen Country Club.
Catawba freshman Mack Sheppard (Hickory Ridge) took home medalist honors with 68-76 — 144.
Sheppard was joined on the all-tournament team by Tyler Mulkey (North Rowan). The junior was fifth with rounds of 75-73 — 148. Sophomore Trey Burton finished seventh with a 150 score.
Sheppard fired eight birdies over the two days. Burton tallied six birdies, with Mulkey adding five.

Gardner-Webb’s Jake Kennedy (West Rowan) shot 69-73-72 — 214 and tied for 22nd in the Golfweek Challenge at Myrtle Beach, S.C..

Alexandria Bare (South Rowan) shot 80-78 — 158 and helped UNC Pembroke finish second in the Full Moon BBQ Invitational in Alabama. Bare tied for 30th.

Catawba’s women’s team tied for seventh at the Anderson Invitational.
Freshman Katie Barts led Catawba. She shot 83-79 — 162 for 13th place.

College volleyball
Queens rallied in the fifth set to claim a win over Catawba in SAC action on Tuesday at Goodman Gym. The Royals won 25-27, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25 and 15-13.
McKenzie Garrison led the way for Catawba (2-5) with 20 kills, while adding 14 digs. Alex Hopper collected 12 kills and freshman Allie Grubb added 11.
Meredith Furr provided 25 digs. Setter Rachel Stanford had 51 assists.
Catawba is home again on Saturday, facing Wingate at 5 p.m.

Local golf
Fifty-five GARS members played on Monday aat Rolling Hills.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Bobby Clark with a net of 59.76. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Windsor Eagle with a net of 60.81. Low ‘C’ Flight player was Paul Rogers with a net of 62.13. Low ‘D’ fFlight player was Ken Miller with a net of 62.56.
Buddy Barger made an eagle on the par-4 No. 17 hole. Bill Saunders eagled the par-4 No. 13 hole.
Seven members shot better than their ages. Combined, Bobby Clark, Barger, Bill Saunders, Dick Hatoway, Guy Schenck, O.J. Chandler and J.C. Ritchie shot 49 strokes under their ages.
Andy Griffin won closest to the pin on No. 12.

Mid. school football
Erwin tied Corriher-Lipe, 8-8, in seventh-grade football
Damario Chalk, Hayden Fann and Dylan Valley made scoring plays for the Eagles.
The Eagles’ next game will be on Tuesday at North Rowan Middle.
