Frankie C. Henderson

HUNTERSVILLE – Frankie Mae Currence Henderson, 102, of Huntersville, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at her home.

Born Feb. 14, 1904, on Cramer’s Mountain in Cramerton, Mrs. Henderson was a daughter of the late Frank Currence and Sadie Davis Currence. She was educated in Gaston and Mecklenburg County schools.

Mrs. Henderson was married to the late Alexander Edward Henderson in 1925. A retired homemaker, she loved to sew and cook for her family, friends and neighbors. She was a real nurturer of children, taking care of her sisters and brothers and later her own children. She took care of and helped to raise many of the community children as well. She was simply known to all as “Ma Frankie.”

She is survived by daughter Ruby H. Nivens Alexander of Huntersville; granddaughter Tawana Wilson-Allen of Charlotte; grandson Hiowana Nivens of Charlotte; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. The oldest of 11 children, she is also survived by sisters Mrs. Helen Bennett and Mrs. Barbara Brown, both of Salisbury, and many nieces and nephews.

Service and Visitation: 2 p.m. Saturday at Catawba Presbyterian Church, 11401 McCoy Road in Huntersville with the Rev. Sheila Council officiating. The family will receive guests at the viewing at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Caldwell Cemetery, Highway 73 and Beatties Ford Road. A reception will follow at Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave.
