Ester Marsh column: Are you ready to do something about your health?

Whether you have figured out which body type you are or not, are you ready to do something for your health? As most of us know, heredity has a huge part in this. Even if you are an ectomorph, endomorph or mesomorph, you can be healthy. Besides your genetic makeup and heredity, your healthy lifestyle is imperative for a healthy body. I believe exercising and treating your body right is the key to good health no matter how your genetic makeup is. Granted, for some it comes easier than others, but either way, you are the one who has to make it happen. Unfortunately, it isn’t a quick fix. Ask the “hard gainers” — the ectomorphs. Where I see the problem is that many people want a healthy body,  but are not willing to do anything for it. “Isn’t there a quicker way?” or “can’t I take a pill?” As I have told you before, a healthy body is hard work!

It surprises me when I see people take excellent care of their cars but let their own body go to waste..What is wrong with that picture?

As with your car, your body is not going to work properly when you do not take care of it.

Would you put oil in the gas tank? So why put all that grease in your body?

Does your car run when the gas tank is on empty? So how can you expect your body to function properly when you eat once a day?

Good health is tough work, so what are you willing to do about it? Your doctor can tell you what to do, your family members or your friends, but you are the one who has to take the initiative to get the ball rolling. Just because your genetic makeup is a certain way doesn’t give you a way out to “accept” an unhealthy body.

I am super proud of a new member, friend and fellow Peter Pan Cast member, who came to me after his doctor told him all kinds of bad news concerning his health. Instead of twiddling his thumbs and sulking about it, he is doing something about it. So far he is doing great! Good health is not just staying away from the doctor. It is independence, stronger bones, toned muscles, a high stamina and the flexibility that you are able to still tie your own shoes. If you can’t read the words anymore, you get glasses right? If your hearing goes bad, you get a hearing aid, correct? So why don’t we strengthen our muscles, cardiovascular system and work on flexibility to keep good health?  You will be amazed how your body will “thank you” when you take care of it.

Your body needs exercise, good nutrition, and love. It is not going to happen on its own, so are you ready to do something about it?
