Salisbury’s jayvees (6-4, 5-0) finished an undefeated CCC season with a 20-16 win at North Rowan on Thursday.

Juan Fair’s 8-yard run started the scoring for the Hornets, and Marcus Corry added a 2-point conversion.

With North Rowan ahead 16-8, Jaquan Davis returned a fumble 53 yards for a Salisbury TD.

Corry scored the winning TD for the Hornets from the 2-yard line with 13 seconds left.

Kevin Mullinax and Andrean Joyner were defensive leaders for the Hornets.

• Carson won 30-22 against Cox Mill. The Cougars (9-1, 7-1) are SPC co-champs.

Cole Sifford scored on a 14-yard run for the Cougars, and Owen White kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

Jay Wilkerson had a 5-yard touchdown run and White ran for a 2-point conversion to put Carson ahead 15-8.

White’s 36-yard pass to Brenden Westbrook in the final seconds of the first half and White’s PAT kick gave Carson a 22-14 halftime lead.

With the scored tied 22-all, Bailey Rayfield broke a 75-yard run for the deciding TD, and White added a 2-point conversion.

White had two interceptions. Kenny Clarke blocked well. Sifford and Wilkerson had big rushing games.

Cameron Rayfield led Carson’s defense. It was the 16th birthday for the Rayfield twins.

• In SPC action, East Rowan won 23-16 against South Rowan.

Michael Floyd and Bailey Purcell were standouts for South Rowan.

For East Rowan, Steven Hardin scored on a 35-yard pass from Tate Houpe. Hardin also scored on a 62-yard punt return.

Devon Cherry blocked punt and Kenderrick Patterson recovered it in the end zone for a TD.

• West Rowan beat Hickory Ridge 24-6 and tied for the SPC title with Carson.

The Falcons  (7-2, 7-1) won against Carson. West Rowan’s loss was to Central Cabarrus.

Martavio Rankin rushed for 281 yards and two TDs to lead the Falcons.

Bryant Young ran for a touchdown and threw 2-point conversion passes to Kameron Caldwell, Mykal Berger and Shamari Evans.

Javon Lofton, Eli Walton and Mason Sides the led the blocking.

Devin Turner, Arturo Vera, Brandon Wallace, Zarrek Barger, Miles Poteat and Rodney Howell led West Rowan’s defense. Turner and Howell recovered fumbles.

•  Central Cabarrus beat Northwest Cabarrus 50-26.

• In MECKA action, A.L. Brown won 40-20 against Hopewell.

Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart opened the  middle school basketball season against  Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic from High Point.

Sacred Heart’s jayvee girls lost 17-15.   Rachel McCullough led the Dolphins with 13 points.

Max Fisher coaches the team, with  Makayla Dillon, Rebecca Malloy, Reilly Gokey and Scott Whittington assisting.

• Sacred Heart’s jayvee boys won 30-10. Will Webb scored 14 points. Tim Hennie is the coach.

• Sacred Heart’s varsity girls lost 33-31. Mary Sobataka had 20 points. Olivia Dagenhart scored six.

Lisa and Sam Sobataka are the coaches.

• Sacred Heart’s boys won 57-52.

Bill Fisher led the Dolphins with 16 points.   Jack Fisher had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.    Zach Robinette scored 10, Blaine Shellhorn had seven,  and Luke Holland had six.

• Sacred Heart hosts its 6th annual Tip Off Tournament on Nov 13-15 with Salisbury Academy, North Hills Christian and Redeemer School participating.

College soccer

The NCAA announced regional rankings Wednesday afternoon with Catawba’s women’s soccer team in seventh place in the Southeast Region. Six teams will advance to regional play, which includes three automatic berths for conference tournament champions.

The Southeast region is made up of the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas.

SAC teams Lenoir-Rhyne (2nd), Wingate (5th) and Newberry (6th) are ranked ahead of Catawba.
