MOORESVILLE — On a night where thunderstorms wreaked havoc throughout the region, the weather was the only thing that was merciful to the Salisbury Hornets.
The Lake Norman Wildcats beat the Hornets (0-4) 49-7 in a game that was called at halftime between thunderstorms.
The Wildcats started the scoring early, reaching the end zone when quarterback Josh Ladowski scored on a run from 39 yards out. It was the second time in three weeks the Wildcats (3-1) scored on the first play from scrimmage.
Lake Norman’s defense forced three three-and-outs in the first quarter while the offense piled on 14 more points on two touchdown passes from Ladowski to tight end Dillon Galbo and receiver Corey Joyner.
In the first quarter alone, the Wildcats outgained the Hornets 226-20. They quickly pushed the score to 28-0 on the first play of the second quarter when Ladowski connected with Joyner again.
A pair of short touchdown runs from running back Austin Vaselenuick and receiver Baker White gave the Wildcats a 42-0 lead before the Hornets got on the board with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Riley Myers to Antwond Glenn.
A second touchdown run for Ladowski gave the Wildcats a 49-7 lead with 1 minutes, 37 seconds remaining in the half.
For the game, the Wildcats outgained the Hornets 406-86. Ladowski accounted for 337 of those yards — 188 passing, 149 rushing — and five total touchdowns.

A.L. Brown 42, Charlotte Berry 21
KANNAPOLIS — Junior quarterback Damon Johnson threw three touchdown passes on Friday and led A.L. Brown to a 42-21 win against Berry at Memorial Stadium.
“Damon played really well, made some very athletic plays and very athletic throws,” A.L. Brown coach Mike Newsome said.
Johnson hit Casey Walker, Sandon McCoy and Jalyn Cagle for touchdowns. The Wonders (2-2) led 21-0 at halftime.
“Our defense played great and maintained a shutout a long time,” Newsome said. “Berry got their first touchdown on a play where we thought we’d broke up a pass. We look up and their kid is running down the field.”
Cagle had another big game. His night included a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Logan Miller led the Wonders’ defense.
“He must’ve made 20 tackles,”” Newsome said.
Daveon Perry was another standout defensively.
Newsome felt the Wonders made strides after a tough early season that has included losses to Concord and Weddington.
“We’ve got our bye week next,” Newsome said. “After a good week of practice, we should be ready to get started in our conference.”
