Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins released the following statement:

“On Monday, Sept. 7, Salisbury Police officers were dispatched to Catawba College to investigate two separate disturbances within a two-hour time frame, allegedly committed by the same perpetrators.

“Four black males who were suspected of initiating the first disturbance were taken in to custody following the second reported incident. It was noted by a number of bystanders during the on-scene investigation that the suspects made remarks about being Livingstone College students.

“However, during the course of the investigation, it was determined that the four men had no connection to Livingstone College. At no time did the Salisbury Police Department release the inaccurate information via social media, to any member of the news media, or share this misinformation with the public.

“The Salisbury Police Department’s investigation of these incidents in ongoing.”
